Looks like a CR-01 with CC-01/XC YJ body, Axial tires, and aren't those 62Pyro's rock rings?

Hi All

Some new tamiya parts for the CR01 in RC sport magazine ( vol 36 / 11 / 2008 )

Some sexy looking drop links on the bottom right of the page above

Also a bit of talk in the same book about the jeep body .

Look like it might be a hard body ( same one off the tamiya jeep a few years back )

See ya

I dont think so. Looks like the OG one to me. I highly highly doubt it would be lexan...look at the Hilux high lift, they used the same mold just altered it slightly with a couple of new holes so they could mount it on the high lift chassis... I cant see them spending the money to make an entire new mold to pull lexan copies when they already have a perfectly good mold to make the hard plastic body.

I think if anything, we might see an altered grill like the new wild willy if they have licensing issues.

I'd say the lights on the grill are a dead giveaway that its a hard shell like the cc-01 YJ.

People confirm it is a hard shell ABS body on Tamiyaclub (link to forum thread)

Here's what they say:
"
Translated text from the Tamiya site...
CR-01 Jeep
"As for the body the injection molding whose precise expression is possible. Also hardness of the scale impression the body mount not being conspicuous is charm."

Oh and translated into understandable English:
"The body will be constructed using the injection molding technique in order to achieve a more detailed body and allow hidden body mounts so as to make the vehicle look more like the real thing."

Original text:
ボディは精密な表現が可能な射出成形。ボディマウントが目立たないスケール感の硬さも魅力です
"

I am happy for this, but at the same time seriously disappointed Tamiya didn't go for a hard shell for the Land Cruiser as well.

I guess I have to settle for my Joustra FJ40 hard body (but I think it's a bit small - more 1/11 scale), and detail that - or wait for master modeller Stefan to getting around to casting his Joustra based Fj40 hard shells. (I know about the Aoshima FJ40 body, but it is 1/8 and a too big for my likings)

Don't take that too seriously. Looks to me like that version is bristling with all the hop-ups available, including the side plates. The kit side plates will probably still be the stock plastic, same as the other CR-01s.

It looks like it has a massive body lift. Other than that it's awesome looking. I love how you painted the frame black. Nice work. These CR-01s are so cool. I'd love to drive one to try it out and see if it's for me.

According to Tamiya USA's website this will come as a "semi assembled" model with the tranny, driveshafts, and wheels pre-assembled.
