| build tips and setup tips
Hey guys I just got my CR01 and I'm planning on starting the build soon. I have been reading a bit but I'm really just interested in tweaks for this one. What are some helpful build tips. What are some helpful setup tips. Really interested in suspension setup and cantilever setup. Thanks |

My thoughts, Change driveshafts,i got ax10 mip shafts but they have to cut to fit as they are to long. READ EeePee thread !. 6oz weight in each front wheel, back depends. canterlever or not its up to you ,everybody has there own opinion,i dont run them, the shocks catch where mounted to the frame and too much play!. Get yourself an assortment of suspension springs including the barrel ones to try different setups. Dont drive off banks,it hurts. Extend the wheelbase, helps climbing, mines at 310mm. Get rid of the stock tires theyre crap, doesnt matter what you get it,ll be better. |

Step one remember to place c3 and c6 in the correct alignment. step 5 remember to use the shims included in the kit to space out the axle shafts or else the diff will rotate a bit crunchy step 7 when using ba11 the screw to lock the axle first use loctite next tighten all of the way down the back off a 1/4 turn step 10 note the orientation of d10, j1, j2 a and b step 14 depending on what servo horn you run depends on if you can run a bumper or not. But with most servo horns you can run the top bumper by it self. Part f6 Step 22 When building the planetary transmission make sure to use the correct countersunk screws Step 24 Make sure seat the 2 bearings and the washer bd7 and bd16 onto the sun gear. make sure to position a2 on to the motor plate properly step 25 make sure to set the proper gear mesh step 26 make sure to attach the skid in the correct position more biased towards the front. step 36 if you choose to mount the mirrors and spot lights be aware that they get ripped off |

The mirrors that came with my CR-01 are really flexible. They bend quite a bit but haven't come off yet. I made the hole in the body for them a little small so they fit through really tight and less likely to come off. The only advice I have is go easy on the screws, its only an RC. No need to crank everything down with Superman strength. |

Read and reread the instructions. This has been one of the hardest kits I've ever built for some reason. I've done plenty of clods and txt's so I'm not new to Tamiya. I've also rebuilt 3 speeds. This one is just funky!!

aside from saying read eepee's thread... i guess the biggest thing i can say is the tranny really takes a bit of attention to get right. here is a good thread to read... Planetary trans assembly there is a few parts in there that really need to go together well. i got my cr01 in a trade and the tranny was not turning freely. the answer to that from the previous owner was a higher turn motor... more power. when in fact all it needed was to be taken apart, have a little scrap of flashing removed, and put back together properly. i also removed the cantilever junk and set mine up with traxxas big bore shocks in droop config. here is a link to my thread asking noobish questions, and a few pics... cr01, droop and a few pics of body on shots.... lil burb the trail beater good luck and take plenty of pics during and after. |

i build the tranny three times to get it right. my problem was the bearing not seating all the way on and i had to file down some of the plastic and then I got them to fit snug on to the sun gear then the gear case was able to be closed. |
