Looking for suggestions/advice on ESC

I recently picked up the RTR Land Cruiser CR-01 from Tamiya's scratch and dent sale. I know I cheated by buying it already assembled but I'm actually itching to build a kit, hopefully with my kids.

Onto my questions. The kit came with Tamiya's 302BK ESC along with their old school FM tx/rx. I already have a DX6i that I'm using with my Summit so I'll more than likely use that with this as well. I do however want to swap out the stock Tamiya servo with either a Traxxas 2075 or the Hitech HS-5645MG. I know the 2075 is waterproof but from what I understand the 5645MG is not? I won't be submerging thiis thing but we have had plenty of snow this winter so chances are it will be doing a little snow running.

So, my main question is will I have any problems using either of those servo's with the Tamiya ESC? The specs of the ESC are:

If this ESC doesn't look promissing, what are some other reasonably priced alternatives?

You should be good if you use an external bec. The 5645MG is not waterproof, however it's a very good servo. You can wp it yourself. And if you plan on using a lipo battery with this esc, your max is a 2s and you will also need an external low voltage alarm so you don't run the battery voltage down too far. The Holmes Hobbies BR-XL would be great alternative if you choose.

Thanks for the reply! I have another question, if I were to go with the 2075 Traxxas servo, could I use the metal horn that is from the Hitec servo, this one:

X2 on the BRXL, I run one in all my rigs. Negative on using the Hitec servo horn on the 2075. You'll need a 25 tooth horn, futaba is compatible I believe.

Thanks Duxx! I'll start searching for a horn for the 25T. I think I read on here that it needs to be around 3/4" long.

I was eyeing that up on the scratch and dent sale. Already have 2, but what the heck.

I run a TRX 2075 on the stock Tamiya ESC with no issues. I think that 1 amp number is a bit on the conservative side, as I run HiTech 645MG's too and don't notice any problems. Try it first, if it browns out on you, then upgrade to a BEC.

Yes, Futaba horns (25 spline) fit Traxxas servos.

X2 on the LVC on the ESC, Tamiya ESC's include a low voltage cut-off, but it is for LiFe batteries, the cut-off is too low for Lipo batteries.

I actually decided to go with the 2075 servo for now and found a good deal on the XL-5 ESC so I'm going with that. The only thing I'll have to do now is switch out the connectors on the extension piece for the TLU-01 lighting unit. I also picked up a waterproof receiver box from a Slash after seeing that set up on EeePee's rig.

The only thing I would caution about the Traxxas 2075 are the plastic gears. I've gone through a few sets of them, although I will admit that was on a Summit, which will put any steering servo to the test. Of course, on a CR01 they may be fine. I got a Savox 0231mg waterproof servo (with metal gears) for mine. Unfortunately, with this servo the stock "servo bumper" won't fit, and believe me I tried!

How about this....solves all issues, it is waterproof, has metal gears, has decent torque and is a little smaller than the SW0231.
