Default TLT finished! Half aluminum tube High gc Low cg FINISHED

sorry for making a new thread but I didn't know i couldn't change the title of the thread and i didn't want "tlt soon to arrive." But any ways I finished it last night and took it for a drive. It hasn't seen any rocks yet but it works great! It can even make it over 2x6 boards (sitting on side so it is 6 inches tall). It has good wheel speed with lots of torque. I hate these pede tires but they will have to do until i can get moabs! The battery will be mounted on its belly but on its side was the only way it would work with zip ties right now. well here it is!

Notice the finished chassis. cross members and a brace. The brace needs to be an inch or two longer to thread the entire screws through but hey it works!

Look at that ground clearance!!! and the CG is below the tops of the tires!!!

Now I just need a body and to wait for those Moabs!

Oh and for all those none believers out there about my chassis...It works! and is strong. It has toppled over from 1 foot off the ground and has shown no signs of stress. I'll have to try it on some real rocks today though. Tell me what ya'll think!

Here is the build for reference: My TLT...soon to arrive

Looks good to me. When I was building mine I though about doing a similiar idea.....

I would move the battery forward and if you can afford it, get some smaller battery packs.

looks good, but i'd worry about the joints between the tubes. any movement will waller out the holes and you'll have a floppy joint. and nobody wants that.

i lost my rig driving down the basement steps, now THAT'S a tumble.

be sure to buy cheap batteries if you're using em for skid plates

I am going to get some 2/3A packs, a lathe motor, and moabs. Those are on my wish list. The batteries are going to be on the chassis. But when i said on their belly i meant mounted flat instead of sideways (lower cg). The links are bolted on with screws and nuts and i make sure they are tigh before i drive them each time so they wont come loose. The chassis has proven pretty strong so far. I guess I will avoid tumbling down any stairs!

I got mashers and a lathe motor and a micro saddle pack mounted on the axles. And my new paint job on a new body! Check out how it has come along:

I think I will be taking it out for its first real rock crawling session on tuesday. Going to the bridge of the gods for those of you oregon guys that actually know. Let me know how you guys think it turned out.

Thanks! To paint the flames i painted The whole body candy red except for the part that is silver and dark grey. Then i printed out some flames from the internet and traced them onto a mask. Then i put the flame mask down under the candy red and then backed the candy red with solid red. After that i peeled off the flame mask and painted them with gun metal. And thats how they were done! Hope that makes sense.

nice rig! I like the buggy body, does it rub any? it looks like it could use some trimming.

Thanks. Seems like that has been a popular question. It doesn't rub. It looks like it would in that picture. But it is just the angle of the picture. It had a tiny bit of trimming but almost nothing compared to trimming a truck body. The 1/8 buggy bodies work great with a 12.5" wheelbase and their lack of fenders, wheelwells, and bumpers allows you to mount them super low without having to worry about articulation clearance.
