Default Stealth Tranny Questions

I picked up a stealth tranny to use with my new tlt tuber build up and I have some newb questions.

What yokes for the driveshafts can be used?

What ds are you guys using? I have a pair of jato shafts, not sure if those will work or not yet.

Spur gears, does associated make one in the 80-87 tooth range? If not what spur gears would fit?

I'll take any other usefull tips or info on using this tranny

Thanks

spur gears :

you can use a number of spur gears on the stealth trannies. i would get a slipper eliminator and a wide assortment of gears will bolt on that.

Just tighten the slipper down and you'll be fine. Kimbrough, Robinson Racing and many others make spurs that will bolt right on.

Default RC10B3 tranny

I used the the Traxxs axles with the yokes .Cut the axles to insert them in the outdrives.Put a nylon tube around the axle to get a tight fit inside the outdrives.Another thing is I used aluminum outdrives .You can drill and tap the aluminum.

JUst use Maxx yokes, drill them out to slip over the Stealth outdrives and use a set screw to attach them.

Really simple.

Thanks for all the help guys. I'm slowly figuring things out.

I found a spur gear at the hobby shop, must have been looking in the wrong places before.

I used this method with Revo shafts:

Metho #73 for mounting Revo Shafts to Stealth Trans

Thanks Dez for the tips on shortening the shafts! So far so good.

The spur that came with my original transmission was an 81 tooth and according to the parts list with the car, you can get an 83, 85, and 87 from Associated. The pinion was a 21 I think, but you can go down to a 13 with Associated parts according to my old catalog. I have 65t lathe and it's a little fast with the 21/81 combo. I'm going to try a smaller pinion.

I kept the slipper. The stock TLT 83t spur bolted right up, but I had to take it off because I did not have enough clearance to set the gear mesh with the 21t pinion and the stock mounting plate. I like the slipper. Seems like cheap insurance against breaking some parts.

I would also definitely JB Weld the diff. I tried to crank it down without the bearings in it. I couldn't move it with my fingers, but it slipped when I put it back in the truck. Just JB Weld it and you won't have to touch it again.

You'll like the Stealth.

i locked my diff by puting a pin in one of the holes for the balls and cut a slot in the out drives i will get some pics of it soon. the good thing is that I can open it back up if something breaks

I thought about trying that, but I lost my patience with it and just locked it up good with the JB Weld.

The pin idea through the ball hole came to mind as well. Both of those methods would be serviceable if something wore out.

I just don't ever want to have to take that tranny out again! One thing I learned about a modified stock TLT chasssis is that it is not very good for acces to the transmission, at least with a Delrin skid plate.

I think I have the B3 in mine. It's one of the first models from an old buggy I had. It has decent mounting points for stand up or lay down and the spur comes off the slipper with two screws. I like it!

Ellegenetelliot, Kimbrough makes some nice spur gears and as I recall they go bigger than 87. Your AE tranny could be off an RC10 Team Car too...all good trannys.

So does any chassis manufacture make a chassis for the stealth?
I have a chassis but had to make some adaptors to fit it in but I'm not happy with how it's mounted.

Yes I am running the tranny with the motor on top.The motor is 3/4"lower then the motor in a TLT tranny case. The motor is easyer to get to that way also.Im using a 96 spur with 12 pinion. It's a 19.20 Final ratio. It gave me a 3 1/2 hour plus run time.
