5 Attachment(s)
Finally, here's a little preview of what I've been working on since the Nationals. Price and availability are unknown at this time. The production version will vary from this version in a few ways. ;-)

Current specs:
SW3 Prototype
TLT axles
DX3
Mamba 25 ESC
Holmes Hobbies 1st generation Revolver
Hitec 645mg
Stampede tranny
Fat Rock axle C's
Moabs/Mashers
HPI wheels
HPI Baja Bug body
5/16" Delrin lowers, HC rears, slight 60/40 set-up

I've got video, I'll try and get it uploaded/posted tonight. Testers feel free to post your builds. "thumbsup"

sweet looking rig brad.....nice work

Cloak 02-25-2007 08:08 PM

Iiiiiiiinteresting.

Nice Tamiya plugs there. :D

Cole82 02-25-2007 08:09 PM

VERY VERY nice. looks like another winner.

Bam Bam 02-25-2007 08:11 PM

Great now i'm goibg to buy the next great chassis from bender. Can't wait to see how this chassi works, because i bet i'll be buying one from you bender.

tmyjeeper 02-25-2007 08:13 PM

That chassis is badazz"thumbsup".

slugzracing 02-25-2007 08:14 PM

Sweet! I was wondering how long before I could post some pics"thumbsup"

The SW3 may not be out yet but it is worth every penny. The highlight of the design for the dense is the two floating shock mounts. It looks cool but it allows the transmission to be removed without breaking the chassis and possibly your links down. 2 screws and you can easily change your motor out in the field or even change out the stupid plastic idler gear in the pede.

I will get my build up soon"thumbsup"

dezfan 02-25-2007 08:14 PM

Looks pretty cool, I like the minimalist approach"thumbsup"

I wonder what it would look like w/ a Stealth installed!

rcnut38 02-25-2007 08:15 PM

Sw2

I actually think I like the SW2 better. Will have to see how the SW3 performs, keep us posted."thumbsup"

Brandon M 02-25-2007 08:21 PM

Nice design looks like it's pretty good. doesn't have as many shock mounting places as sw2 though

I was thinking the same thing about the Stealth. Looks great, though. I am coveting those Axial wheels big time! Can't wait to snag a set!

The production version will have mounting holes for an R2. There should be plenty of room for a Stealth too, if you don't mind drilling your own mounting holes in the skid. As Slugz mentioned, the tranny pops out in 2 minutes with this design, and the production version will have even more room with a slender one piece motor side chassis plate. ;-)

Thanks for the compliments guys. :)

quattros 02-25-2007 08:25 PM

Looks good "thumbsup" Will it except any other tranys :?: The black plates with the machined end look awesome "thumbsup" "thumbsup"

The SW2 is a great TLT chassis IMO ;-) and works with many other different axle set-ups. The SW3 is a streamlined version of my Nationals rig, and designed specifically for a 2.2 comp rig running TLT axles. It still has a little adjustability for 60/40 link set-ups too.

crawler02 02-25-2007 08:28 PM

when will this awsome chasis come out and how much will it be"thumbsup"

dezfan 02-25-2007 08:30 PM

Bender, have any side by side shots of the SW3 and the SW2?

Unimoger 02-25-2007 08:33 PM

Aw , finally, I can post my truck too:lol: I have had my sw-3 for quite awhile and I must say it is awesome! I have had a sw-2 also and this one puts it to shame. Will post build pics very shortly. As soon as it is out YOU better pm bender and get one, you won't be sorry that you did."thumbsup" "thumbsup" "thumbsup"

86jeep 02-25-2007 08:34 PM

How narrow is it? it looks great cant wait to get one $$??

Cloak 02-25-2007 08:35 PM

Unless DJ has something under wraps, the NM crew always gets left out for these cool tests. :)

The sw3 will not disappoint..."thumbsup". Mine is extremely capable. The SW2 is an amazing chassis, just no as comp specific. Can't wait to see/ get the final production version Bender!"thumbsup"

BrockGrimes 02-25-2007 08:46 PM

Do you have any flex in the side plate?
Would like to see a pic of just the chassis if you could?
The top mounts seem sturdy, but it seems like the lower would flex the chassis, especially if you get the suspension and tires bound up.

Let me know I'm getting ready for my first TLT build and
I'm currently looking for a new chassis.

Not to worry I still run CLOD's.
Just trying something different. :?

It's still the same width as an SW2, about 2 1/4", and still uses the stock TLT standoffs.

This is the best side by side pic I've got right now. The biggest difference between the two is the 3 is alot lighter, has more belly clearance and a lower center of gravity.

I threw in a couple action pics too. ;-)

Fox 02-25-2007 08:51 PM

nice, i may upgrade the SW2 ;)

dezfan 02-25-2007 08:53 PM

Thanks Bender! You get a really good sense of the reduced size of the SW3 w/ that pic.

W/ your current set up, how much center chassis clearance are you able to get?

There is a little flex, that's why the production version will have a 1 piece motor side plate. This chassis has been in testing by about 10 different guys for months, only one has been bent. It slide off about a 15ft ledge to flat rock. Here's a pic of the 1st generation prototype, it's by far the thinest version out there.

No problem on the pic. I'm running 3 5/16" of belly clearance right now.

eric113 02-25-2007 09:05 PM

How thick is the first chassis and how thick is the chassis now?

Slid off a cliff? It drove off, from what I saw! Here are some pics of mine.

ILoveRCRockCrawlin 02-25-2007 09:10 PM

That looks great Bender! I hope it performs great, too!

They are both .090 thick 6061 aluminum.

Thanks for destroying your personal rig to test the durability for me. ;-)

slugzracing 02-25-2007 09:13 PM

Deflection in the shock mounts is a non issue in my opinion because I have seen very little if at all. 666 I think has done more clif diving than the rest of us but mine has taken some nasty hits and is still straight and solid

slobin3d 02-25-2007 09:15 PM

I was asking Ben about this but he didnt know, How does the chassis fit with a XL5 tranny, the spur gears are a bit thicker because of the new slipper setup, will it rub?

That won't be an issue with the production version, the motor side of the chassis will be wide open. These test versions have alot tighter fit around the tranny.

 I heard this chassis was holding it's own out there. It's taken the top 3 positions in the 2.2 Class at both of our Winter Series events too. ;-)

JasonInAugusta 02-25-2007 09:22 PM

Yup, there's a little flex in the SW3 but it doesn't seem to be too bad.

Brad, glad you're making the new mount/skid for the R2. I have one here that I planned on putting in the 3 since I yanked the pede tranny out of the 3 to build another rig.

Yup, from what I've seen of the R2 tranny, I'm impressed. I have one here that I will install on my production version. ;-)

slobin3d 02-25-2007 09:26 PM

If you want, I would be glad to do some testfiting of the XL5 in the 3 "thumbsup"
