Those look sweet. I'm jealous of your access to a machine shop...
I work next to a sheet metal shop that we're good friends with, but nothing to that extent...

Good job, I'm very impressed.

Looks awesome!

Must be nice having a CNC...I can't make anywhere near what I want/ design with only a manual mill.

One question though...how are you going to position the bearings in the knuckles? Just have two butted up right next to each other?

I don't think he's worried about that. His axles will be just as strong if not stronger than CVD's.

Looking good Ace, I wish you'd get going on a scaler as quick as you got on these axle parts.

I built the original El Capitan axles and trans on a manual Sherline mill...

El Capitan gets a face lift for Moab

CNC makes some outside curves possible but the above design would be relatively simple to make on a sherline. Maybe eliminate a few radii but that's it. For onsey twoseys like this it might be quicker to run manual!

As for the bearings, they are kinda close but I had to do that to reduce the scrub radius. Not much offset under a 2.2 wheel to tuck everything under. They are flanged bearings press fit into aluminum so the slop should be close to nil. The pace between them is .125"

Why?

I doubt my 18V Ryobi cordless in low could break my dogbones and drive cups.

I don't really know the CVD's for TLT but I'd imagine the stub axles wheel mount threads are the same thread and therefore same size as stock TLT. Which is too small for our use IMO. I plan on using Max sized nuts and threads. I'll have to drill out the wheels but that's not a big deal.

Did I mention I don't like to buy mechanical solutions

Thanks for the replies guys.

looks killer ace... I wish I had the setup you did! although, it would still require skill which I probalby have little of in this scenario!

looked at your el capitain as well... another smooth build, the question is.. do you really need tlt parts except for gears?

The cvd's use 6x11 bearings, rather then the stock 5x11 bearings. So the threads are larger

But like you said, you build your own upgrades, so why buy something if you can make it? love your work

Excellent point about the tlt parts. I contemplated a whole axle using the gears or maybe a smaller bevel set. Would have added time to the design and build stage. Might still do that. I built a set of 2.2 (actually 1.9) aluminum axles a few years ago that I was never happy with in terms of reliability. Might have to dig those out and do a redo.

Outstanding Ace.

Between you and Grizz your carftsmenship is outstanding.

It might sound like a$$ kissing but when you see there rigs in person they speak for themselves.

Looks great man.

I don't know what format of files you use, but if you are interested we (members of RCC) have an account on XDrive.com that we share all of our files on. We have about every axle, tranny, and so on done. So IF you are interested just shoot me a PM.

Those pieces look great. I loved the build of El Cappy.

Are you saying the axles are already in CAD format. Dang, wish I'da known that two weeks ago. Or are you saying to upload the parts?

Either way I'm interested. I'll pm ya, thanks.

As you know now they have already been done, twice actually. But I am just posting this for others knowledge.

But anyways, again those things look great!
