Tamiya might have started it, but a lot of it was by accident.

We are the ones that really started it (builders)

Axial gets the credit for doing something different and catering to us though.

Dragging out my old RCC SW2 a couple weeks back is what brought the crawler itch back for me actually. Had more fun than I remembered having with it back then, right up until I destroyed the rear axle housing.

i remember being excited as hell when the tlt was released. people give axial all the credit for the scale thing, but imo it was the tlt that gave the scale scene the foundation for axial to come in and build upon it.

I have most of a TLT kit in the box, Ace gave it to me a couple years ago but I have not really checked what's in there. I also have about 3 unbuilt sets of axles and 3 built sets.

I give Tamiya credit for giving the builders the parts to kick off scale crawling but the builders made it happen. I remember in '05 when UTRCRC kicked off their 2.2 class, there were some sweet Clod bodied TLT scalers along with the 2.2 Clods. Then the scale looking TLT tubers really became popular.

C*H*U*D keeps bugging me to get Peanut back together with some Axial axles and run it in the Sporty class. I'd really love to get that done.
I doubt I'd go back to TLT axles, the ring/pinion gears are just too weak to be reliable with anything more than a 55T brushed motor.
I remember I used to change out ring and pinions a couple times per year to avoid a failure during a comp.

To be honest, I never ran mine enough to find all the weaknesses. I just couldn't get into going slow after building it at the time, I doubt I ran it 12 times in 7 years. Parts are getting harder to find for the TLT axles too, I know hangers have been gone for a while. I may do the axle swap on mine someday, and make a 1.9 rig out of it, as I really have fun with it now that I appreciate crawling more. What axles do you use, SCX axles?

Yup, made the switch to AX/SCX axles several years ago.

Do it Chris you'll love the Sporty class. There's no question in my mind those earlier times had something special. But 2014 being the new 2004 sounds pretty good to me.

Resuscitate the Peanut

Peanut will be making the trip to Crawlapalooza to take on the Bounty Hill challenge. All I'm waiting for is the servo to come in the mail.

As fun as Peanut was with the 900 KV Holmes Outrunner, and later the 21T Holmes Torquemater Handwound, I can't wait to drive him with the 4600 KV Castle motor.

I ordered a 10.5T Holmes Trailmaster brushless but I don't have time to wire up the motor and Conformal Coat the sensor board. I like to waterproof the sensor board before it gets dust on it. So the 4600 will have to do for now unless I get some free time.

Stay tuned.

Are comp rigs aloud in this challenge?

I have not seen any rules for the Bounty Hill. I assumed it was run what'cha brung and since there will be comp crawlers and scalers I figured either was fine.

I know I can count on RPP to get my order out on time, I just hope USPS hits that 2 day shipping mark so the servo gets here in time.

I just threw it together with axle/link parts, Sidewinder, and motor that I had laying around in the parts bin. The wheelbase is at 13.5". I had it at 12.5" to possibly run it in 2.2S but just didn't like the look. I have always liked the look of a 13" - 14" wheelbase better with tires over 4.75" tall.

A little preview...
