| Meet "Limestone Cowboy" new pics added 1-30-05
First offI would like to thank Bender for the shock tower idea. I did add in a bit of adjustability to them. This project has been in the works for about 5 weeks now. I hope you all approve of it. Enjoy! http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/neonrc...bum?.dir=/5849 Last edited by stlcrawler; 01-30-2005 at 04:28 PM. |

Sweet, nice work. Looks like it belongs in a Mad Max movie w/ that body. How's your body roll w/ that set-up?

I love the set up VERY LITTLE body roll. THe springs may be a bit too stiff but I am working on a 2 stage set up, I will keep yopu posted. I tried to dye the wheels but it striped the plating so I Rattle caned them Dark Bronze. Thanks for the comments on the body I wanted somthing that I would not have to totaly hack to get to fit with my shock tower braces. I also painted the shock towers dark bronze they almost look titanium. The moabes are not terrible in the snow but not great either but I don't have the wheel speed to spin them so they are OK. I replaced the two stock motors with a single Lathe motor today but have not tested this yet I may go to 2 55 turns but will probably not put in a reduction drive. I also plan to get rear steer so I can then lengthen the front controle arms. |

Glad to hear it's working good for you. I like my shock mounts because they have more leverage, over chassis, to keep torque twist/body roll to a minimum.

I had the shocks mounted inside the frame at first but the body roll was pretty bad and "wheel Jacking" was even worse. After I saw how you did yours I gave it a try and it works very well. I mounted the shocks on 6-32 treaded rod so that I could vary the angel of them and played with it till I found a nice set up. Then I sleeved the rod with tubing to stiffen it up a bit and make it look "all purdy". I drilled an extra holl in the frame so I can change the angle of the shock tower also to add the the adjustability of the suspension. I have the shocks set up the most verticaly now. I can lay them down a bit more. BTW the earlier links SHOULD work now. I was in a hury earlier so I rushed the post. |

Yeah, I have 3 adjustment holes for suspension on my axle blocks. Also w/ my new towers I can radically change ride height. And for final tweaking I can change length of spacers on top and bottom shock mounts, my front uppers are actually a little longer than rears now. |

| Limestone Cowboy got a lower CG.
I decided I needed to do somthing to lower the CG of Limestone. I have been kicking quite a few ideas around and decided to clock the transmision. I fooled around a bit and decided on what you see in the pics. http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/neonrc...bum?.dir=/74e5 About 45deg to the left and moved forward about 1/4". I still am running twin motors but after I get the GD600 I can REALLY get the motor low. Right now the one motor is well below the top of the frame and the other is still lower than where it was before. THe battery is goes behind the trans sideways. The front drive shaft is a straight shot right to the pinion. The rear is off set quit a bit but still works well. The most fun was making cool trans mounts. I brazed a peice of Aluminum to a cross member and used a bolt in the trans for a middle mount. The others are just scraps of AL that I bent to work. I also mounted all of the electronics to the sides of the frame. No more radio tray. Sorry for the rambling I hope it makes sence. |

Looks good, I've been thinking about doing the same thing. Have you had a chance to test it out? |
