Default CC-01 or SCX-10?

Hey Guys,

Well, I had my heart set on a scx-10, but after seeing the post on tamiya re-releasing the jeep wrangler I'm now torn as to which I should buy. I know the cc-01 is not as capable as the scx-10, but for scale the tamiya has it hands down. I'd be using either one primarily for trail riding. What do you guys think?

Cheers,

Mike

dpends on what your expectations are.

the scx is far more capable, and can be very scale.

check my cc-01 in action.

Default I went with the CC01...

I was faced with the same dilema and decided to go CC01. Price was an issue for me and the CC01 is much less expensive, the other thing is that the whole idea of a scaler is that it should look as "real" as possible. I looked at the pics posted on this site and decided that the CC01 looks more realistic.

Here is what I ended up building: lwarc's budget fj instascaler($200)

Thanks for the info guys,

I've decided to go with with the CC-01. I've built many tamiya kits over the years, top quality and great realism. I like your FJ Iwarc, I might build one down the road. Right now I'm trying to decide if I want the Pajero or Jeep Wrangler.

Sounds good. I think I'll get the Paj for play and get a jeep bod for the display shelf.

I got both. When I finish my cc-01 I will be able to use my scx-10 to get to the harder places and winch the cc-01 up! Both are great trucks..

nice video, though the continuity errors with the wheels make me think it wasn't just a quick lunch break crawl. i think i'm going to have to get my pajero out and start hacking on it to try to fix the steering somehow. would it be wrong to just throw an 8711 in there to flog it until it behaves or will that just break stuff?

I was running one pair of wheels on one side and another on the other side. I bought new chrome wheels but one pair was on back order and I was eager to see how they looked on there.

i don't know why i even brought that up since the lighting conditions are the same. i guess i'm just jealous that my lunch breaks are much more boring than yours. i'd think those bling-y wheels wouldn't look too great on a truck, but HSE's are pretty commonly blinged out so it works on that truck. where'd you get that shell?

Well, it helps that I am self employed [and that business is slow, lol] so I can take a long lunch sometimes if I want. I ca drive the truck for an hour, grab a quick bite and be done in less than 2 hrs round trip from home.

This shell came from Wal-mart I think, in store sale. A friend got it for me knowing I was looking for a second one as a spare. I guess this isnt going to be much of a spare now, lol. The first one I got through Wal-mart online. They are generally not available any longer. They were also only $35.

I agree. The bling wheels work on this truck but ironically dont on my other rover body, probably because its set up more as a serious off road truck.

I respectfully disagree with the SCX being less scale, one is IFS one is 4linked but they are both good "canvas's" to build a scaler but I feel the SCX can be built far mor scale. Just my opinion

Will the Tamiya Wrangler body fit on an SCX10?

It would be the best of both IMO...

wrangler wheel base is considerably shorter. its around 9.5" where the scx is 11-11.5". with a dremel and a drill anything is possible though, lol...

if you give it a slight body lift you can fit trail docs or mudslingers under there. maybe even creepers. that size tire is it. 3.7-3.8" tall.

Thats why I made my own using mud thrasher treads on the stock sidewalls. they work really well! I was outperforming many SCX's today, lol...

here's how I did it.
How To: make BFG Thrashers

the CC-01 is a fairly capable rig right out of the box, sure there is a little slop in the stock steering, and the flex isnt imaculate, but it does weel stock

now if you do the solid link on the front like pantablo did, and throw some better shocks and a 55t on it, you'll have a great scaler, and tires would help, im curently using some proline dirtworks that have been reduced to 1.9s, and they work amazingly well, i also use some 1:18 nylint tires that i modded to fit 1.9s, they work better then the stock tires, but not as well as the dirtworks

all in all the cc-01 is a capable scaler that is quite a bit cheaper then a scx-10, i personally would choose a cc-01 over a scx-10 because its alittle more challenging to drive and that adds to the realism IMO
