| Motor/ESC Help
Finally ran my FJ yesterday and it was a blast! I am looking to upgrade the motor and ESC first. I am looking at Novak. Will their motors fit in the CC01? I am looking at Eiger ESC and Rock Star 45T combo. What do we think of it? Sounds stupid..I know. I'm new! Thanks! |

I have a 55t Axial motor in my CC-01, and it's still just a HAIR faster than my stock SCX10 Honcho. It's faster than a brisk walk, but still can be controlled really easily at really low speeds. |

I'm leaning towards the Eiger and a 55 turn. Maybe the stock Terraclaw that comes with the Eiger Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

To get a motor that will always "fit" in your cc-01 you need look for 540 size/type motors.

The Eiger seems awfully overpriced for a CC01. Hunt around for a used Goat, Axial AE2...anything with a decent drag brake and under $65 will do what you need it to do. As for a motor. The RC4WD sealed can motors are good. I'm running a Low Bucks Racing 55T rebuildable and that was around $20.

I agree...the AE-2 would be absolutely perfect for a CC-01 based vehicle. Heck, I still use the stock Tamiya ESC, and for a trail truck that doesn't do a lot of actual climbing, it seems to work pretty well. |

I picked up a used Tekin FXR for $60 recently. My motor was 10 or 20 bucks new and I got a used Novak heavy duty BEC for $15. This was all local, so I'm sure there are good deals to be had if you hunt around. Good luck!

Can someone explain to me why a BEC is needed? Some of the new ESCs come with them right? How would you attach one to a ESC that doesn't have one?

Most ESCs come with a BEC. The reason for using an external BEC is to take some of the load off the ESC when using accessories like high torque servos in crawlers. It's possible for a servo to draw enough power to "brown out" the ESC or make the system glitch. This isn't too much of an issue with a trail rigs, as they generally don't draw much juice. The only reason I have one is just because I could. My Tekin's 3a is probably more than enough for my needs, but with all 4 wheels locked up and a high torque servo, I figured better safe than sorry. Wiring in a BEC is pretty simple. Power goes to battery. Output goes to the receiver. Just be sure to disconnect the white wire on your ESC's servo lead, otherwise it's getting powered from 2 places and will get cooked. |

I run 80t motors in my CC01's. LRP in Europe make rebuild able Truck Pullers in 7.2 and 12v configurations. They have tonnes of torque and a slow enough wheel speed to make the CC01 easy to drive off road.

I run a 75 turn motor driven by a 3s fxr in my cc, and it is a great little crawler. One of my favorite. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2 |

Ordered my XB Pajero yesterday and already thinking of replacing the stock electrics. Motor will be Integy Lathe 45T and ESC Axial AE-2 as i have those doing nothing at the moment. Im guessing already that that 45T motor will still be too fast so i probably will buy 65T Lathe, that should slow the sucker down. |
