Default Noobie that found these bodies, need advice

Hello everyone. I have just registered to these forums after reading them for weeks. I have these scale bodies laying around, and need advice on them. I have seen that the FJ cruiser is pretty common from the builds ive seen here. But i also have this Jeep Grand Cherokee body from FastLane. I have not seen any cc-01 builds with this body, which makes me think it may be rare. The FJ is the newbright version. Can you all tell me if you think this jeep body would fit the cc-01? Thanks in advance.

You can make either one fit, they will both need you to modify the cc01 chassis. Do some searching on the body's here on the board and I'm sure you'll find some info.

Those are 1:14 scale. The 1:10 scale FJ measures around 10-10.5" axle to axle. I've seen builds with both those bodies using MRC running gear. Neither will fit the cc01.

I dont own a cc-01 to use for size comparison with the bodies. I cant even find any pictures of the cc-01 chassis with a ruler for measurements. So i have no idea how big the cc-01 is. If anyone knows of any pictures of the cc-01 with a tape measure like the ones i posted please let me know. thanks!

the cc-01 has a 10-10.5" wheelbase. So you would want a body with a similar wheelbase. Like the other guy said, those are both a little too small.

The CC-01 wheelbase can be adjusted from 9.5" to 10" to 10.5". The width from wheel to wheel is approximately 8". Those bodies as previously mentioned looks to be 1/14 scale possibly 1/12.

Well thanks for the info all. It's a real bummer, was hoping these might fit when i got a cc-01. Guess i'll have to find another body, as im not a real fan of any of the stock bodies.

Really? There at least 9 different bodies for the CC01, I'm sure at least one would suit you.

9? I am only familiar with the wrangler, pajero, unimog, bronco, and landcruiser...what else is there? I would like a toyota hilux, or full size ford if they would fit. I dont know how much modding it would require to make those fit though.

VW Race Touareg was the other official CC-01 shell, but the Tamiya Brat shell fits as well as their blackfoot and clodbuster shells. New Bright Land Rover Discovery shell fits too.

Thanks for the reply! So the Blackfoot body fits? Does it require much modding to make it fit?

It's a Tamiya 1/10 truck so it should be close if not fine to fit to the CC-01.

Thats awsome! Thanks man! I did find some pics from this forum on it. The blackfoot body looks great, and im sure i could score one off ebay, or a garage sale.

Blackfoot body fits just about perfectly. The original blackfoot bodies can be found used as you know. But the Blackfoot Extreme body can still be bought new. This is the next generation (early 90's) Ford. Fits same.

This is nearly complete. Wheel track width is wider than standard as I modified the 1.5 M-chassis wheels to have more offset.

This shows before paint. The white on the hood is where I cut out and filled in the massive hood scoop. Filled in the sunroof opening too.
This also shows the wheel track width as standard, again using M-chassis 1.5 wheels.

edit:
This is the difference in generations:

Also, Clod body fits well:

Oooo, I love that boxy clod body! I'm planning to extend my wheelbase, but bodies like that make me reconsider. I know I could extend the tray or something but it would start to look a bit weird at axial scx10 length.

Wow that looks great! What kind of modification did you have to do to the chassis?

Both of those are almost DEAD ON to the long wheelbase setting of the CC01 chassis. Other than unscrewing the rear axle and links to move them to the rearward holes you'd need to either source a Touareg (long) driveshaft to match OE shaft or make a longer drive shaft with traxxas half shafts.

[edit: the long wheelbase setting is 10.5" and is for the Touareg, short is 9.5" and is the Pajero and a couple others. The FJ40 has additional bridges between the holes to make it somewhere between the two.]

pantablo what did you have to do to get the blackfoot and clod body to fit? just extend the wheelbase to 10.5 inches?

Yes. Using the long wheelbase setting already built in to the chassis tub and adding a longer driveshaft was it. If I'm honest, the wheelbase is actually 1/16" or less off but I've run them like this without any issue.
The stock tub has all the mounting points molded in to the chassis tub for short (9.5") or long (10.5") wheelbase so its only a matter of mounting the links and shocks in different place. Two minutes with a screwdriver.

Pantablo, which kits are already 10.5? Since i havnt bought one yet, it would make sense to buy the one with a longer wheelbase if i wanted to use the blackfoot body. I would have the proper length driveshaft that way too.
Thanks!
