My Unimog will be here today. Can't wait to start throwing it together! I had my reservations about the CC01 till I started going through all the threads on here and watching about every youtube video I could find. With some modification, and in the right hands this is a quite capable little unit. And it looks like it's about as easy to modify as they come, and the tub's go for $17 on fleabay, so wild and sick experiments are not a problem.

Even with the steering upgrade, i'm not fully satisfied of the turning radius and there's a lot of play in the direction so if u have any tricks...

And please, comment...

Hello noname, you might not recognize me but i recognize you. I'm pfuture, you know the guy organizing the rides at Mont-Royal ?

Anyhow, i messed quite a bit with the GPM steering kit. You can fix the steering with it but you have to work on it a bit. The 5mm shaft that goes through the chassis fits sloppily on both the upper and lower parts. i used CA glue to glue the lower part to the shaft and for the top i used a locking washer and some threadlock gel. The mip one is probably the best for this but i think i used some blue thread lock gel from Canadian Tire. Before assembling the top i put a light coat of CAglue on the flat parts of the shaft but did not glue it to the upper part. Did this just to remove any play. Then i used a locking washer and thread gel with the top screw.

Hope this is clear. PM me if you want the explanation in french. This removed quite a bit of slop. The remaining slop is linkage related.

Don't know how the stock steering is, never ran mine stock. I used GPM C-hubs, knuckles and CVDs. You have to add shims behind the hex pin so there is less slop with the front axles. Can't get more steering now, the CVDs rub against the C-hubs. Maybe the Tamiya CVDs for CC-01 would be better than GPM ?

Hope this helps.

The std Tamiya steering rod that goes through the chassis is a loose fit.
The std rod ends have lots of play too.

You can use Traxxas rod ends, much better. Long ones, 2742.

You can use the GPM steering kit to get rid of the play in the chassis, but as has been said, the top and bottom are loose. I filed new flats in the ends of the rod, which now fits nice and tight.

Damn this is an outstanding looking CC01. Great job on it. Really like that you have Shaggy driving as that is a great touch.
