| Best GRU for CC-01?
I have been researching GRUs in CC-01 rigs and most threads are old. Looking for the most compatible with good crawl control yet a slight bit of wheel speed. Also any pics or install tip are appreciated as I know modification is needed. Thanks |

I use rc4wd 2:1 and 3:1 in both of mine iirc. Compact

A 2:1 with a 65 turn motor is pretty strong

I use the HPI and it's way too low. I will be switching to something in the 3:1 or 4:1 range. The 7:1 HPI unit is really only good for "hardcore" rock crawling and takes too much wheel speed away. I'm using the kit supplied motor and my top speed is less than walking pace.

I would not go any lower than 3:1 with a lower turn motor. A higher turn with 2:1....to keep some wheel speed.

Little CC01 chart I put together a while ago for comparison purposes. Tons of options out there, got a bit confusing. GRU depends on what turn motor you plan on running. I like a 35t and 2:1 for trail running personally. Very subjective though, but at least you can compare overall ratios. |

Bare with me, I swear it's relevant I was initially playing around with motor turns and batteries. Anywhere between a 6cell nimh and 3s lipo. Motors between a stock silver and a 85t. I had settled on a 3s 5k lipo and a 85 turn motor. It seemed to work pretty well until I found a good deal on a rc4wd 4:1 and a new 35t integy. After clearancing the battery tray and turning the battery on its side I got it to fit. (no pics just yet, sorry) I dont know why I wasted my time trying all the other motor/gearing/battery options. Just put a 4:1 in and drive away happy!
