I know it is an older design and isn't quite as capable as the comp crawler, but the NC is still a really capable performer when it comes to crawling

Their is still some really strong aftermarket support if you just want to do some basic upgrades and eBay is loaded with used parts should you want to bring the NC up to comp crawler standards (dig setups and such are fairly plentiful and easy to track down)

I've got an original NC that was gifted to me in fully functional but used condition - I have done fairly extensive upgrading to it, but mostly in the way of getting some speed out of it to make it more fun and more useable as a trail truck and not just a dedicated crawler

I put a sensored hobbywing brushless system in it - I went with a 10.5 turn motor and I run it on 3S - this allows me to run a small pinion to keep the motor from drawing too many amps and allows it to turn the drivetrain easily while the 3S lipo gives me great RPMs and torque when needed

I run full metal transmission gears and I also installed the "heavy duty" worm gears in both axles - these gears are 21 tooth gears as opposed to the stock 25 tooth and, along with the brushless setup, give me excellent wheel speed and make the crawler fun and interesting to drive between obstacles

Lastly, I run Hot Bodies Sedona tires and aluminum wheels - the wheels add weight for stability and the tires are a larger diameter than stock, adding to the ground speed

It crawls like a brushed setup and really moves quickly between crawls - I never feel the need to carry it to the next obstacle anymore and it will wheelie if I want it to

So far it's bulletproof and reliable and it runs nice and cool

I really like my NC now that it's fun to drive in all circumstances and not just a dedicated crawler

Thanks for the info. I don't have the money to mod it or need to mod it for trail driving. I even had to take out a loan to buy it.

That's cool my man - we all have our own goals and budgets - it's all good, as they say

I just thought I'd share with you the "bolt on" mods I'd done to mine and how they affected it as a whole

BTW, I had my NC 1.0 for around 7-8 years before I was in the position to be able to afford the upgrades that I've done - it was bone stock all those years and I did lots of non-competitive crawling with it, but I always longed for more wheel speed and versatility, so that's just me and the reason I decided to upgrade

As I mentioned, it's a very capable crawler in stock form and is very pleasing to drive in those conditions

Absolutely new to the game as been playing with the short course trucks but looking to crawlers. How would this compare to say the wraith or redcat in terms of a dedicated crawler like at the campground ( get funny looks when the slash flies by about 40 mph lol)
