Default another newb question. ^_^ how does a bead lock work?

I hear you guys talking about replicating the look, and now pro-line has real beadlock wheels, but how does it work? Can you explain what a bead lock wheel does that is different?

pro-line's are only for 40 series tires and 23mm hex...Maximizer's has 14mm hex and uses Maxx size tires...

a bead lock wheel pinches the bead of the tire to the rim, preventing the tire from pulling away from the wheel.

In RC application it's the same thing, it's a great wheel becuase you don't CA glue and you can re-use the tires and wheels. Have a new set of tires? Just bolt them up to the bead locks and save the other set of tires.

It sounds like you may be talking about Rock Rings. For RC trucks, Rock Rings just bolt/glue onto the rim, and are mainly for looks, they do not really hold the tire onto the rim. Beadlocks however, are a type of multi-peice wheel that holds the bead of the tire between an inner core and an outer faceplate that bolt together.

Jason shows how to used Maximizer Beadlocks in this article right here at RCC:

There is also an animation of how the Maximizer Beadlocks work on the Maximizer site here:

www.rc4wd.com has some 2.2 bead locks. They are aluminum and pretty expensive.

Yeah, that is the only place I have seen that still has 2.2 beadlocks. I have heard some talk about vintage 2 peice wheels that kind of act like a beadlock, but I am not sure about that.
