Default machining for dummies literature?

I am curious to know if there is any good mill/lathe books out there (machining for dummies ;)) to read for a newbie. I have been into rc for quite some time but i have never played around with any machining tools and to be honest i am tired of drooling over others sweet projects. Thanks in advance for any reply's.

A very good book targeted at the beginning hobbiest is written by the owner of Sherline, Joe Martin, called Tabletop Machining.

Yea, the pictures are worth the price of the book.
