I finally made my choice and ordered the Hakko FX-888 the replacement for Hakko 936 series. Hakko also offers wraps like the Hakko Checkpoint 936 model for them. I picked one up for $80 same price as the remaining 936 models still on the market.

May I ask where you picked it up at? I am looking to grab the FX today and a local place has them for $84.99 gotta love no tax.

Pretty awesome little unit half the size of the 936

Just picked up one tonight Fry's electronics has them for 64.99 They also carry tips

FX-888 is it's improved and smaller footprint unit...replacing the discontinued good ol' Hakko 936.
