Any recommendations for a good soldering iron to work on all of these small electronics?

I picked up a nice 40watt Weller from ACE Hardware for less than $20 I believe. Works soo much better than the cheap 20watt one I had from Radio Shack.

I use a Weller Soldering station I bought from Sears for under $45. It has an adjustable heat range and 2 types of tips. Well worth the $$$$ and a heck of alot cheeper than the Hankko I was considering getting for $95. HtH. http://www.google.com/products/catal...wAg#ps-sellers |

| Hakko 936 If you only want to buy 1 soldering system the Hakko is the best one hands down. Lots of people will say they like this or that, but if you dont want to have to buy it again, Hakko is the way. Night and day from what else is out there. |

imo I would say go with the hakko 936. I've had mine for about 5yrs now and used it from rc to soldering up 600+ wires in 30 degree weather for work. I have never had a problem with it and I love how small it is. I'm also still using the original tip on it. If it ever goes out I will definatly buy the same one again.

X5 on the Hakko 936. Last iron you'll ever have to buy, can be had for around $80 I believe.

Grab a 40 to 45 watt iron. Lower than that wont work well. More than that can get things hot real quick (sometimes in a real bad way).

Anybody had any experience with the Team Checkpoint Soldering station. I have got to buy a new iron and saw that one at my LHS, just wondering what you guys think. Or should I buy a hakko?

Depends on what needs soldering. Current soldering equipment is a Hakko 936 with both the 907 and 908 irons and an American Beauty 250 watt Resistance Soldering unit with both the small and medium tweezers. Also have a coulple of retired Wellers around here somewhere.

I use a Weller 45w modular iron. It works great. You can change the heater elements and tips to suit your needs. I've never used a "station" so can't comment on those but my Weller goes where I need it. I use it at work to repair electronics in machinery and I use it on all my RC's without fail. I've been able to resolder an antenna back into a Spektrum SR3000 rx and then use it with silver bearing solder on motors. Pretty versatile if you ask me.
