Just a suggestion, I would not cut those upper shock mounts like that as it takes away lots of strength from the metal. Leave the Full C channel when possible. And just another general welding rule is don't grind weld beads.

theres a plate that I bolted on top of the shock towers, for mounting the esc, battery and receiver, so strength isn't/wasn't a issue....and no beads were ground on the shock towers....thats how it came out. Pretty cool huh.

the link that blmptek posted above...thats the durafix I picked up. just use mapp gas and a stainless steel brush on the parts you want to weld together.

Have a thread on the frame I built with the durafix for my F250.

edit...we welded a piece of round bar to a piece of the frame material I was using..just as a tester, to see how strong it is...both Big78 and I bent the hell out of the round bar...and the weld never broke/cracked.

I just picked up some of those Alumiweld rods from Horror Freight yesterday, that I'll be trying this afternoon. They are supposed to be the same thing as Durafix.

There are some better rods that you can get at aluminumrepair.com, called HS5000 I believe, but they are pricey. Theirs have more alloys mixed in with the aluminium (instead of just zinc) and are supposed to be stronger. That probably won't matter much for R/C, though.

He began to talk about the torch, so I think he might want some of the brazing information.. because if he hit an OA torch aluminum welding, Wedding Cufflinks the worst thing he can do.

Just a suggestion listen to squatch71. Dont tell the guy to change the shock towers. You think they are going to break.

Durafix works amazing.
