Thumbs down Just got RAPED at Airgas for Safety-Silv 45
I grabbed their last 5-pack of 1/16 x 18" rods, went to the register and it cost me over $80! The silver cost about 72, then there were 2 additional surcharges of about $2 for 'Power' and 'Hazmat'. When it was all totalled up with tax it was $83!

Beware buying silver locally. I could have gotten the same pack of rods online for half the price. That is the first and the last time I'll be going to Airgas.

It's pretty much anywhere you go now....

Online can advertise lower but they also charge market rate and silver is way up....

my local welding shop doesnt even display safety silv anymore... you have to request it and they go into the back room to get it.

luckily i got a bunch of 45 from a fellow rcc'er for cheap.

Silver is the new Gold

I have a buddy that works as a private welder in Vegas.
He was just recently commissioned by the Pawn Shop you see on TV "Pawn Stars" to weld up a cage and gate (basically a very large vault) within the stores back room for them to solely safely store ONLY all their Silver in.

He said it's oddly large.... They must be expecting to hoard up an awful lot of Silver

Why didn't you just tell them no and walk out? That's what I did at my local shop and they knocked it down to $44 from $76. I HAVE been a customer there for 30 years but still when I let them know I wasn't happy about the price they fixed it. If they don't fix it, buy online.

i went to air gas bout 6 months ago and get that same 5 pc 18" 45 silv package for 32.00 bucks ....getting ready to get more and will post back when i go there ..........bob

Yet another reason you monkeys should use the search button.

IIRC there are about 3-4 threads where I've mentioned places you can pick it up locally for about half or less than what the welding shops charge.

just checked silver price and it's down from 32.00 an OZ to 27.00 an OZ so safety silv should be down as well ???..........bob

why not just use brazing rods? there dirt cheap. just need a little more heat

just out of curiosity, why such a high silver content? i obviously know nothing about brazing. Im assuming for strength. will 15% work? or will it just break?

well, I ordered Safety-Silv 45 1/16 x 18 - 5-Pack from homedepot a couple months ago, and it's $32.97 each.
but u will get free shipping if u get more than $45.00 Order.

That's exactly where I am going next time. I just didn't want to wait a week to get them. To say I paid a premium for immediate gratification is an understatement.
