| Which loctite do you use?????

With red lock tight you have to heat the part to get locktite to let go i know from experience i red locktited set screws for drive shafts when shaft broke i had to use a pencil torch to apply heat quickly the locktite realeased and screw came out with ease

I didn't vote, because I use both! If it's something I rarely take apart, it gets the red. Try heating the screw/bolt head with your soldering iron before removing. Also, throw away that old bottle of the blue and get some new. Some have an expiration date on the bottle. Buy a new red one too if it is old. Also make sure your screw is clean (no oil or grease) and lastly, try the stick form of locktite. My son gave me a stick of the red, and I like it a lot! Not near as messy. If you're not familiar with it, it's in a container like chapstick. Hope this helps man...........Blah, Blah, Blah |

Neither is the answer. All depends on screw size, screw material, material being screwed...etc. There is not end all be all of loc-tites for everything. One tip I find helpful...clean parts with acetone first, real good. Another tip...buy from automotive stores, not hobby shops. I've never had the same luck when buying the hobby branded stuff compared to real loc-tite. Last edited by binaryterror; 07-30-2012 at 11:55 AM. |

well the Blue 242 loc-tite that i have is about 2 years old now and I just got a new tube of the red 271. I haven't used the red yet but I did use the blue on the knuckle c-hub screw and the damn thing backed out and bent like a pretzel. Im fixing to order a set of beef tubes so no more plastic to metal c-hub mounting. C.H.U.D did you use any threadlocker on yours when you installed your beef tubes in the AR60 axles?

If used, Blue only. "Real" Loctite. Some parts don''t need anything at all. |

I use blue almost exclusively. I like the gel stuff. I did however recently use red when assembling my MIPs for my Wraith. Seemed like a good time to use red |

There's many Loctites available depending on the application. The most common are Loctite 222, purple-ish in color, mainly used for small machine screws. ( M2, 00-80,2-56) Loctite 242, the blue colored stuff everyone seems to know about. It's rated for fasteners up to 1/4" in diameter. The Loctite 262 is the red colored stuff, it's made for fasteners up to 3/4" in diameter. There's the machine shop favorite, Loctite 609. It looks like alien blood and stinks to hell and back. Nothing is vibrating apart when this is used. I've been using Loctite 425 lately for small fasteners, it flows like a CA glue,it's black in color. It seems to work very well on the chub and kingpin screws so far. |

I use 222 purple for RC stuff because I like to take things back apart. Works great. The only problem is finding it. I've ordered it from McMaster. Blue can be a bit aggressive. I've had to take a propane torch to berg axle cases to get them apart when blue was used. Not mine of course. Not to name names, but he has z's in his name....... I've used red to mount bushings in auto trans servos, they held up to 200F ATF. No way I'd use red for typical RC applications. |

Loctite has a primer to use with anything "shiney", Stainless, Nickel plated, Chrome, or Alum. You can get the primer in a stick also. |

I used Blue back in my nitro days and it works great I don't see why you would need red on a crawler... seems like overkill unless you never want to get your rig apart |

I too use both but I probably use red more than some.. A little heat and it breaks free rather easily..
