| AutoCad 2014 question.
I'm taking my last 2 CAD classes this semester to get my 'certs as a 3D designer so that I can goes back to work. One class I have is engineering drawing w/ CAD. I have to make 3D models in CAD, which after learning Inventor, I can't understand why anyone would want to use CAD for the modeling. None the less, I have to do 3D models with this PIA software. Does anyone have a good way to rotate a model to a different axis while staying in the WCS? I've used the 3D Rotate command, sometimes I get the 'gizmo' and sometimes it doesn't show up. Certainly there must be a better way to re-orientate? Some of the shapes I'm making are 'Revolves' and they are done in the X axis, which makes the view cube show as 'top', I want to re-orientate to the z axis and have the view cube to read as 'TOP'. Thanks for any guidance. |

If your model was designed in a sketch. Just rotate the sketch to the desired rotation.

I have used inventor only once and that two for some hours and I absolutely loved it. I cannot give you a specific answer, but I can say that you can actually reposition the WCS anywhere in the design space at any time of modelling. The only one that is fixed is the Absolute coordinate system. You will have to find the tab which allows you to reposition the WCS. |

| Re: AutoCad 2014 question. I learned Inventor 2 semesters ago and have been using my student version constantly so that I get proficient with it. This semester I have to learn how to use the basic AutoCad software and build models in the 3D environment. It's mind-numbingly difficult compared to using Inventor. I think that you use Solidworks, right? It would be like comparing using solidworks to sketchup. |

I use autocad 14 for making all my models. that's 14(1997) not 2014. and yes I agree its painstakingly difficult. what I have to do to work on each plane or side is go to view, pic "top, right, etc" then go to "change UCS" then click "view" this changes he UCS to match whatever side your working on/looking at. instead of rotating the model. everything is ridiculously hard in AC and going back and making changes later is impossible. at least with mine. and certainly no live viewing and rotating of a solid model. mines all wire frame. |

You should be able to rotate a 3D object while in sketch view as well if you just need to rotate it 90°. Just pick your view and use the regular rotate tool from wick rotational axis point you want. It's been a while since I've used AutoCAD, but it's all I used for CAD programming.
