Default Speed threader?

Anyone ever used a speed threader? I was thinking of picking one up in 10-32 for making custom links. Anyone have preferences or recommendations?

Also is 10-24 or 10-32 better for custom links?

I have a tap and die set already, I use 3/16 steel rod and grind down the ends a bit in diameter then thread 8/32...haven't bent or broken a link yet...

Hmmm I almost think an 8-32 would work better as it's a smaller diameter. It was a pain getting those ends onto the 10-32.

A Revo rod end (my preferred choice) is almost perfectly sized for 8-32. I do prefer to tap my rod ends as well instead of just jamming them on.

I wonder is there a metric size that falls between 8-32 and 10-32?

Not really...8/32 is 4mm x .7 and 10/32 is 5mm x .8

8-32 is pretty robust for links, and one of the more popular rod-ends are already set to use them. Why make things more difficult than they need to be?

I don't like using Metric because I prefer the course thread of the 8-32 over the finer pitch of Metric when it comes to plastic.

For what its worth I've been using steel rod to make my links and just threading the ends, using Revo ends and threading the rod 4m x .70 I've still never had one rip off or come loose.

I first used 10-32 with revo ends and like mentioned above, it's tight. Plus, I have a lot is 1/4" brake line around and it sleeves over 8-32 so that's what I've been using.

I wanted a smaller diameter for a panhard on my HG and I have a bunch of axial rod ends so I bought 4-40 all thread, used axial ends and sleeved it with 3/16 brake line.

I had to bend it around the pumpkin and it bent easy by hand so I'm not sure it's rigid enough for lower links and such.

Of course brake like is annealed for easy bending so maybe stainless or another type of tubing would work better....

I somewhat tap the revo ends just enough to get started and let the threads on the link cut the rest into revo end, back it off clean out the inside of the rod end and thread it back on.

That sounds somewhat like what I do too. I use a spiral point tap and thread as far as it will go. The spiral point leaves some material at the bottom of the hole to keep things tight once the rod end is installed.

I just don't like forcing threads in because threaded rod doesn't cut but rather pushes the plastic out of the way. I want material all the way down into the threads of the link which is why I tap them.
