Default My 2.2 comp maxx

Well, this build has been going on for a while now over on www.UKRCRC.com but there's still a long way to go, so I'll give you an overview of what I've done, and what's still to come.

Full build thread here.

Started off something like this:

Then fabbed some axles out of it:

Wheels and tyres mounted, just a hair over 12":

One axle brace, other side will be the same. This is where the shocks and lower links will eventually be mounted.

The steering, lock to lock, with an MG995 servo.

Thoughts, comments?

I have a similar build in progress right now. Yours looks great! Only thing I'd do different is to find a way to run shorter knuckles, both for ground clearance and so you can fit some wheels with very deep backspacing to get your width down. It doesn't look like the axle itself can get any narrower (mine can't either) Good luck with that build!

Edit: Check out what Slowtoyota did to his maxx knuckles for clearance.

This rig is awesome to see in person.

Modding the knuckles is a definate, I just KNOW they'll just get me hung up a load, but that's a mod for some time after the truck is together.

I saw that build whilst I was doing some research on Maxx axles, and I gotta say it looks fantastic.

Cheers.

Well, since I can't leave anything well enough alone, I ended up modding the wheels, and the hubs. I knew that if I left the hubs standard they would get caught on everything, and also by modding the hubs it would mean I could move the wheels closer to the axles, narrowing my painfully wide track width.

Modded the front hubs first...

Then, modded the rear hubs, like so...

And after modding the wheels offset...

...the end result is that the total width is about 11.5".

I also love it! I hope you don't mind if I use some similar ideas on my build. Just out of curiosity, how wide did the axle itself end up being? It's looking like mine (using clod knuckles and CVD's) can't get any narrower than about 10". I wish my wheels would show up so I can start really building on mine!

Cheers for all of the kind words guys!

Sure, feel free to use any ideas you see here, most of the inspiration came from this site anyway. ;)

The axles come out at 9" wide, from outside of hex to outside of hex.

All in good time, my friend. Been working a lot recently, so haven't got much done. I'm 16, and work as a waiter, so I've been working in any free time that comes my way.

I got hold of an SW2 chassis and some Revo turnbuckles for this beast, and once the front axle is finished (wasn't happy with the steering setup, so changed it for the millionth time...) I'll get this this built!

Also looking at a Cobalt motor for this thing, 11.1v LiPo batts, and the new TCS Dig. Should crawl real well when it's done.

Cheers for the kind words, Paul.

Wow that is some awesome fab work by a 16 year old. can't imagine what you will build in the next few years. But first finish this one.

Wow, haven't updated this thread in a while...

...'bout time I did.

Got me a roller, almost! Still need to finish up the front steering hub mount things.

SideWinder ESC is ordered, Cobalt 6t motor is on it's way, 3s LiPo will be getting bought soon. Castle BEC is here already.

Still need dig though. Looks like the TCS AX10 dig isn't going to exist until after the UK Nats, so need to get something else. Fast. :?

Yeah, they should stand up to the Cobalt 6t and 3s Lipo.

Aaanyway, bought two Mystery 3s 1500mah 25c LiPos on eBay last night, and am talking to YotaChump about getting some of his heavy duty outputs for the Axial Tranny.

Also cut up an old Cheyenne body for comp duty, whadd'ya think?:

She's a runner!

Whipped up a quick 7 cell sub-c NiMh pack to test with, and even with only that and a 55t motor i've plenty of torque, as you can see from the fourth pic...

The brakes are awesome, far better than what I'm used to with the clod.
The BEC gives loads of power to the servo But does cause some glitching unless you move it right to the opposite end of the truck to the reciever.

The axles (apart from that broken one ) are outstanding. Things that would even get the clods diffs hung up are no challenge for this, it just seems to float accross obstacles. You can see in the third pic, a normal axle would have gotten hung up here, but these were straight over, eeeasy like.

Naaaah mate, 'twasa mere design fault on my part, gonna re-fab the shafts by brazing them, much stronger.

You KNOW you've got a strong driveline when the weak link is the wheels...

Well look what showed up today!

My new high-strength Axial tranny outputs, to fit Revo shafts. Mega strong, these things will outlast the gears in the tranny, and probably the wheels too. That's another weak link moved, then.

Anyway, onto the pics. The output on your left is longer so that the larger Revo shaft will clear the spur gear. The reason the left shaft looks so hacked up is because of a previous attempt at sorting that problem...

Big thanks go out to Yotachump here, these outputs are one fine peice of engineering. Fit like a glove.
