I have the defender trx4, and have been looking at getting a, not so to heavy body to replace it. I have a cliffhanger body, but the frame trails are an inch +/- too long, front and back. It's not quite a month old, so I don't think I'm quite ready to cut the frame rails. I've been looking at the proline fj40 body, sounds like the wheel base is about right. I sent OSRC a pm about his, but I guess the real question is, should I stuck it up, and but the conversion kit and chop the frame rails? How hard would it be to swap frame rails, to the shorter wheelbase? Any input is very appreciated, and I'm very open to questions. I'm not scared of the work, but I have a full time job(50+ hrs a week, and 3 kids that like to drive the truck)

Frame rails are the same length for all trx4’s, besides the 6x6 obviously. Short wheelbase conversion really just requires shorter rear links and a shorter rear driveshaft tube As far as chopping it up and putting a different body on… I’d say it sounds like you need a second rig Definitely with 3 kids that also like driving. I’m a Bad influence though, so don’t ask me. Last edited by twade984; 12-02-2021 at 06:58 PM. |

I've already been looking at others. Fortunately I've got a couple scx24s that keep them busy. Do most other bodies fit the frame rails? I was also looking at the rc4wd 4door Tacoma. I don't mind changing the wheel base.

Formerly a Defender, now with the wheelbase shortened to 12.3" to fit a JConcepts K10 pickup, really chopped to get it to sit as absolutely low as possible. The posts are all the way down. Drops something like 25oz compared to the Defender shell-- you know, no fenders, exocage, etc. Hands down best performance modification I've done. Shame there aren't more body options in the 12.8" wheelbase. |

This is an Axial XJ body mounted on a TRX4 chassis. There are really very few limits to what body you can put on the TRX4 chassis the lexan bodies are pretty simple while the hard bodies are a bit more complicated to mount. Start with the wheel base and build from there.

Proline has a cfew 12.8 inches bodies. Otherwise you can get the long to short wheelbase kit from Traxxas and a whole new world opens up to you. You could even extend the wheelbase to 334mm to accomodate some of the longer hard bodies out there, like the TRC D110 Defender. | |

There are still a couple of the Pro-line FJ40 bodies left on Ebay, they fit the 12.8 TRX4 with little modification to the inner fenders. |
