I'd probably use the front c-hub hole and drill two more, one on top and one on the bottom. Panhard mounting side might require some careful drilling to get a top screw in, could use a setscrew there if need be, but I'd run them into the axle housing not just clamping method.

This is from when I reclocked my front hubs, but the concept is the same when narrowing. Drilled a small hole to and bottom and used 4 3x6 button heads. Holding like a charm. I did use a dab of CA to get the hubs to "stick" while drilling. Just made life easier. I later narrowed these 6mm per side, and did a second set a full 10mm per side. Worked like a charm. |

Toto is does not require any axle mod, at least not for me. There was enough extra room to allow the cv's just to slide further inter locker. Sent from my iPhone using Tapascrap |

I recently finished up narrowing my first set of axles for a new project and while it is a fairly straightforward process, getting everything equal left to right can be tricky. Here is a tip for setting equal caster on both sides: There are mold seams on the bottom of both the axle housing and c-hub, use these as your reference points. Set the gap between the mold seams equal on both sides and you end up with equal caster. Bumping this thread every now and then is also a good thing. It seems like there are a lot of new Ascender owners on here that may not realize their axles have this ability. |

I can't believe shortening of the panhard link hasn't been mentioned lol. It took me a minute to figure out why the axle was sticking out much farther on one side. Had to shorten the panhard the same 6mm that I shortened each side.

Its kinda self explanatory. I narrowed a set last fall for a swb zuk project. Cut 6mm off each side of housing. Install c-hubs (with inner shaft support bearings installed), index your caster as desired. Drill the front countersunk bolt holes into the housing first to final set the caster. Then drill a top and bottom hole on each side so that the c-hubs are retained with 3 bolts per side. Remove 12mm spacer from pan panhard and shorten steering link 12mm. Probably the easiest axle on the market to narrow. Take you time squaring the ends of the housing after your cuts and the rest is very easy. Another benefit of the Ascender axle that isn't mentioned much is the very short pinion gear that captures the driveshaft pin inside the carrier bearing. This seriously helps with driveshaft angles with swb builds, like a 10" wheelbase samurai. |
