Default Comp classes for ascenders?

So I'm new at the entire comp thing and I'm reading all the sorca rules and specs. I'm trying to see how the bronco fits into these. It seems like it comes down to mostly tire size that moves it from a class 1 to 2? So far it seems like all my kids and hop ups are legal and add scale points. Some examples maybe would help me understand a little better...pics would be great! Thanks guys!

I'm not really a comp guy but based on my understanding of the rules, the Ascender goes straight into class 2 based on tire size. There are a few main points to hit with class 1:

1. Tires 4.19 inches or smaller
2. No more than 1/2 the tire's tread sticking out of the fenders
3. Full width front and rear bumpers (bumpers molded into the body count)

The Ascender in Bronco or Blazer form hits #2 and #3 with no changes from stock. A tire change is needed to hit #1.

A C1 truck would look something like this (shameless plug for my truck ):

A C2 truck can go more performance oriented with things like bigger tires, pinched bodies, and narrow bumpers such as this truck:

I know there are some that will not let a stock Ascender run in class 1 due to the stock battery mount being partially connected to the axle, I know the group I run with is following most of the rules minus the battery. If someone has a otherwise class 1 rig minus the battery we are not going to stop them. Od of tires cannot be any larger than 4.19 and body must cover half of tire tread, truck should look like a daily driver that's street legal and for light trail use. That's a big part of the challenge, I'm working on my class 1 ascender now but I have a tf2 that is definately class 1 and can go everywhere the larger class 2 and class 3 trucks in our group can go within reason. Granted I don't have the ground clearance or tire height but make up for it with side hill capability and the challenge of picking out a line.

So the battery thing confuses me too. I did a mod where I have the tray turned around and it is mounted in 2 spots to the shock tower. So technically that is not allowed because the shock tower is not considered part of the chassis? I do understand what you're saying about different groups and rules but since I'm new to running just need some clarification.

What you did should be legal, it makes the battery frame mounted, not floating or semi-floating (attached to axles or suspension links).

I'm doing a video rebuild series right now and I'm going to post it up here soon so you can see. I gave shout outs to you and billinvic for all your ideas I stole . You have a lot more places and time to crawl compared to us snowy Ohio folk But some people react better to videos then pics. So keep a look out and feel free to comment. Hopefully help out all the new and soon to be new owners.

1.5s? If it's the growlers that basically what I ordered. So it looks like with a tire switch I should be able to jump between the classes.

When I saw them the first time on a website, I could not resist the temptation and I purchased right away,
in Italian language, "ignorante" means rude, ignorant
