Default Which transmitter/receiver for F100 BND

I'm wanting to get an Ascender and I'm leaning towards the F100 BND. Should I just get the regular RTR receiver or upgrade a little. I need to keep my cost for the transmitter around $100 or less. What do you guys with experience think?

Thanks!
Scott

I like my spektrum dx4c. Nice radio with lots of capability for the $100 budget.

I was going to go nuts and get the new Spektrum DX5C, but have no need for that many channels just like the screen and controls but I opted to just pick up the Tactic TTX300 3 ch setup...RPP $50.00
You could go with the DX2E and have a backup receiver... RPP $60.00

I did take apart the Tactic receiver and conformal coat it, whereas the spectrum receivers come waterproofed from the factory.

I conformal coat everything electronic. It's easy and it works.

I have 2 hacked GT3C radios, an love them. It is one of the highest performing radios you can get for less than $100!
And even the 6 channel RX are around $15.

$35 GT3B or $50 GT3C radio (multi-model memory and up to 8 channels, both hackable and receivers are cheap) from eBay.

Most guys on a budget go for FlySky stuff, modded or not.
I use a Radiolink RC4g (aka Turnigy TS4g), also a very good Tx for the money. I like the super soft springs on the wheel and throttle.

The TTX300 is the best handling radio I ever did see, but doesn't have a display and all that. But I love how it's compact and simple!

Something to remember about the FlySky - you won't need to pick up batteries for it... Comes with a USB-rechargeable LiPo battery included in the price.

........ and can I again mention how nice it is to have a lanyard loop on your radio - without someone throwing a rock at me?

(it really does make everything easier, can just let it hang while tuning the vehicle, being the Hand of God, or just chillin' w/a beer, whatever...)

Lanyards FTW!
I'll be adding a thingy to my Radiolinks for that.
Hanging on a carabiner on my beltloop sounds even better.

Several have mentioned the Flysky GTC3, is the receiver for it waterproof. Would you consider the Flysky an upgrade to the Spektrum DX2E that comes with the RTR's

Thanks!

The DX2E is a piece of shit. I know, I had it and eventually threw it away.
So yes, almost anything is an upgrade over it (literally, I've had Hobbyking radios that came in a 50$ RTR package that were better built and better to operate).

I purchased a F-100 BND last night before the sale was supposed to end. Now it's transmitter/receiver time. I think I'm going to get the Flysky GT3C that several of you recommended. Any other suggestions before I click the buy button.

Thanks!

I bought the F100 BND knowing I wasn't using the Spektrum setup. I took the receiver out and will be selling it. Radio wise I bought the Sanwa MX-V radio for $99. The other nice radio for around the same price is the Futaba 3PV. Either radio will work find for the F100 and will be at your $100 price range. Sell you Spektrum receiver for like $30 to $40 bucks and put that towards your new radio.

The GT3-C receiver isn't waterproof - but that's easily rectified - put it in a balloon, then in the fuel cell and don't worry about it - new receivers are a whopping $7.50 - get a spare just in case.

My Flysky GT3C transmitter AND GR3E receiver came in today. I have a couple questions. I plugged the steering servo into ch1, the ESC into ch2. My throttle was reversed, I changed it on the transmitter. Ch2 is now reversed instead of normal so it'll go forward when I pull the trigger and back up when I push the trigger. Did I plug something in wrong or is it okay to leave it that way. Second question, how should I operate the lights, I want to be able to turn them off and on with the transmitter. Sorry for the noob questions but I haven't owned a rc car since 1984.

Thanks!

The throttle situation is OK, that's what channel reversing is for!
OK, it could be that your motor is backwards (if the truck goes faster in reverse that's one of the signs).

You'll need some sort of light controller (can't control them directly). It's a doodad that will read input from your receiver and send power to the lights or what-have-you. I'd go with something off Hobbyking, you may want to look into HeyOK's stuff since you're in the States.

HeyOK's RC Electronics items (all in one place)
