| Rock Racer or Crawler
It seems this car is is better suited for speed and not crawling. I can't decide how I really want to set mine up. I like running trails and crawling more than speed runs (mainly because I have no one to run with or a descent place to really run it as a rock racer). What is everyone doing with theirs, crawling or rock racing ? |

Im setting mine up for crawling, fully locked, 3s, 13.5, mmp and currently redoing the front suspension to make it articulate more. but it can still do speed runs, its just a handful lol

I'm setting mine up as a go fast runner. Took mine out to Irvine Lake RC track this weekend and it didn't do half bad on the 1/10th scale track. I have to admit this little buggy is a lot of fun. Chris |

I'm at the same impass.. Wishing the trans had a bigger gap between the 2 speeds.. I'm running a 17.5t with lower gearing for crawl spots.. Too hot of a motor makes this rig a fast desert racer and a faster desert racer... |

I chose fast. Here are the pros and cobs I noticed: Fast cons: Steering is sloppy. Way too much play. I can't wait for a fix for this. Body roll: the heaviest sway bars help a bit. Rear axle: not ideal for speed. Having the rear locked is also not ideal for high speeds. Slow Cons: Front suspension will never full articulate on its own. I backed off the rocker nut, set coils softer and locked the front. It helped, but its just the nature of ifs with no weight over it. After having a wraith, trying to make this a crawler just didn't make sense to me. I think the TH is an excellent basher. That is its string suit. It can take a hit. It can go pretty fast, and it can get out of trouble. |

wrong.. if a locker is not ideal for speed why does every race car out there 1:1 scale have a locker in it?? its to put the power to the ground evenly throughout both tires,, locker in rear end = perfect for high speed runs, just takes knowing how to drive,,

The only cars that got spool treatment were front drivers oddly enough.. A drag car may be different.. The TH is fun but with MIP not being able to work out the bugs in the front end I can see mine going up for sale sooner than later...

^ what he said. Both my 1:1 4Runner and Twin Hammers jerk to the side under hard acceleration. This throws the TH off course more than my 4Runner because of the slip steering. Also, in corners the locked rear acts as a corkscrew and causes the rear to slip out. Furthermore, a locker is quite different than a spool, which is really what the twin hammers has. A real locker acts as a differential when coasting or cornering. |

Almost all go fast KOH type of cars have some type of arb locking rear diff, best of both worlds. Locked up like spool for crawling and then unlocked like open for high speed handling.

All Good ideas, They should outlaw cars with dual personalities. Too much strain on the brain trying to decide . I think am looking at a Holmes setup with the 27T motor as I have pretty much decided that I don't need the all out speed, but I want to do more trail driving with this. Need to get lockers for mine next I guess, and see how it does. I have a Losi Nightcrawler and an Axial Honcho, so I am not totally requiring the TH to be a dedicated crawler at this time. |

And that is the first glaring drawback to the TH - it's a handful at speed, and I'm thinking 80% of that is excessive play in the steering linkage. Now that the "new" is wearing off that's the first thing I'm going to look at I think...
