If it's a custom build then I wouldn't even use the slider. Pick up an Irie kit or a kit from Scorched parts on shapeways. The slider is terrible and a conventional bellcrank steering is much better.

You'd really be better off with a bell crank setup, Irie, Scorched Parts, Traxxas - whichever.
The stock slider system is something you see on early Tamiya cars. It's a flawed principle, but it worked just 'ok' on those, all parts made from nylon, on small wheel buggy type cars.
Inexplicably Vaterra made the parts with glass filled nylon. This is a disastrous bearing material, hence it does not work well at all, especially with bigger wheels and high steering loads.
Aluminium parts are unlikely to fair any better - (maybe someone here can say different?) They do not address any of the problems associated.
I'd recommend spending your hard earned on the well proven fixes. Spend once.

I'll second the motion of skipping the stock type Al parts and going straight to the bellcrank conversion. I run sr eries and it is worth every penny.

Skip the traxxas bellcranks. The centerlink is the wrong length and produces funky bumpsteer.

Everyone else is correct, bell cranks are the way to go ... however, I think it was hot racing that made an aluminum ( and maybe graphite ? ) version of the stock slider. FYI

Scorched Parts o Shapeways sells one that uses the stock shock setup with bellcrank steering.

HR makes a aluminum factory slider. If it is just a shelf queen, pavement, run it around the house type thing the slider will be fine. It is just if you get dirt or debris in them they stop working properly.

For a shelf queen, the stock steering system is awesome!

The Hot Racing aluminum slider isn't actually a performance upgrade, and you can barely see it with the cage installed. It isn't worth buying, is my opinion after having had one in my Twin Hammers. My steering was just as un-reliable with the Hot Racing slider as it was with the stock slider.

But for a shelf queen, the only thing that matters is looks. The Hot Racing slider doesn't increase scale appearance in anyway, so don't waste your money.

No performance benefit + no appearance benefit = a waste of your time and money.

If you ever decide to put your Twin Hammers to the performance test, you'll need to go with one of the bellcrank options. The Irie system on the GCM plate is everything you hope for and more, as far as performance goes.

I buy a cheap alloy replacement, same performance........ but just waste 6 USD........ search in aliexpress or ebay under k949 (clone hammers model)
The other options are expensive :(

My old Kyosho Big Brute 2wd monster truck had the same setup, when it wore out I fabbed a replacement with Losi JrX bellcrank setup.
