| Newbie question about wheels and tyres
Just wondering if I could pick some brains about tires. I bought these wheels for looks and to assist the centre of gravity a bit. They do both jobs well but being new I assumed that beadlocks are a standardised fitting. It seems however that certain tires fit certain wheels as the standard out the box tires were a serious headache to fit! So I'm wondering, what tires are a direct fit for these wheels? What would you recommend as a hard wearing road tyre and what would you recommend as a crawling tyre? How do the original tires stack up?? Lastly, I notice the tyre sidewall is very close to the steering track rod, are there any tires I should avoid due to width? Any advice much appreciated!! https://www.asiatees.com/display?bra...mper&id=113741 Last edited by SkiSteve; 01-15-2017 at 05:24 AM. Reason: Added Wheel link |

The wheels you linked are Asia Tees High Mass beadlocks and they are way too heavy imo. Use some PVC pipe and make you own inner clamp rings, buy VP aluminum rings $7 each: 1.9 Wheel Clamp Ring - Vanquish Products Or buy some lighter wheels, stay around 79 grams per wheel or less for crawling, much lighter for high speed. Vaterra TSLs are a good tire and have same bead type. In addition to tire/wheel width, watch the offset of the wheels so that they don't rub the steering rack links. |

Thanks for the response and for the link. The trimming I had to do on my tires was due to the small diameter of the clamp ring, do you know the diameter of the rings you linked? I couldn't find it. Good idea to use PVC pipe to make my own. Interesting that you think the wheels are too heavy, I got them deliberately for their weight and find the truck is much more stable with them. What negative effects do you find with heavy wheels? |
