Brazing Video

how does that torch head and hose work, i was thinking of buying it to eliminate holding the mapp bottle.............bob

....

I love it... instead of the torch head attaching to the bottle it's off this hose. So I have the bottle mounted in a holder on the side of my work bench and then all I have to hold is this lightweight torch head.. makes it much easier to move around your work without the long bottle sticking out behind the torch head.

Someone let me know if this is what I need to get...

anyone know somewhere else where I can order some Harris 56% or 45% safty silv brazing rod.

In the post above at Ram welding supplies, shipping and packaging is almost as much as the brazing rod :x

sweet thread on brazing. i don't think i'll try it but at least now i know what goes into building chassis like this. now i know why the long and dreaded wait to get on.

question about brazing... im new the crawler scene lookin to make my own. im a plumber and am familiar with soldering but have never brazed. what would work better my small mapp gas bottle or my acetylene turbo torch? what kinds of metals can be brazed?

you can braze steel or aluminum. brazing from what i'm told need ace, not map. map won't work...i hear. i've seen it done with map years back though so maybe you should get to your hobby shop and grab some tubes, a few aluminum brazing rods and give it a whirl.

...i tried but for the time and cost, i just asked jerry to do one for me instead.

Hello...
Newcomer and looking forward to learn many things from you guys.
So, my first question is... what's the propper "to buy" list for a rookie like me to start making stuff ? The material I'll be working on will be aluminum and steel. Links would be very helpfull... I'm more like visual (if this is the right word), than reading...:)
Thank you in advance.

PS.Found this video on youtube.... thought I'd post it here...

You will want to get:
Mapp gas and torch - Lowes, homedepot will have them.
I highly suggest Harris Safty Silv 56% Or 45% and flux. - get it at your local welding shop or online at Ramwelding.com
3/16 brake line.
clamps and/or vise crips, magnets or other forms of holding things togeather, not necessary but helps.

You'll also want a dremel to make the fishmouts. or I like to use my grinder then clean it up with my dremel. I also have an air die grinder for sanding the edges I will braze, but you can just use sand paper or your dremel.

I think I covered everything.

Oh I don't use a tube bender but you may want to get one some other like using them, but the brake line is easy enough to bend by hand or vise.

Sorry for the previous foolish question.... I missed Double J's post

What color is the brake line that you folks are buying? I tried using some dark grey colored line, and its not working out too well. I'm sanding off the grey coating, cleaning it up real good, but the 56 will not take to the line? Anybody else have this problem??
