Kaetwo's Tekin FX-R Review...

Well,
My Fx-r is installed and I thought I was gonna be in trouble when I opened it. LOL. It is so small that I thought if I looked at it wrong it would break. :ror:

Anyhow. I still have some programming to do. Thank god for this thread and the wifey saying "read the instructions more stubborn ass". I have no reverse, but, I haven't did the fine tuning yet.

Setup was a breeze. ONce I realized where LED 1 was and where 6 was. All was good. I only have the ESC BEC right now, but, I have my CC BEC all ready to go when I set up the 2 speed tranny.

This has got be one of the best write up/support threads on RCC. Thanks again from this novice."thumbsup"

Update!!!!

BUMP and UPDATE

Got my R2 two speed tranny in , along with the CC BEC. AND IT ACTUALLY WORKS!!! LOL.

I have a few bugs. LIke I still need to turn on my power switch to make the esc work. I first just plugged in the batter and the BEC was controlling the steering, but, I had no throttle. Until I turned on the power switch for the ESC. I unplugged (broke:x) the red power cable outta the ESC cable.

I need to adjust some EPA cause the tranny popped outta gear once, but, all is good so far..

I ain't screwing anything up with my setup am I? Meaning, I have BEC connected to the batter in the RX, with the BEC soldered with the ESC battery wires to a dean...

i am a little concerned with having to power up the ESC still, thought the BEC would take over?

Hope someone reads this."thumbsup"

Perfectly normal operation. The on/off switch controls the ESC, and unless you hardwire the ESC to be 'on' all of the time, you will have to continue to turn the switch on, everytime you power it up. The switch powers up the ESC's internal circuitry. That power comes from the battery, not the receiver. The only thing the receiver does now, is send a signal to the ESC, to tell it what to do. I'd suggest you leave the ESC switch 'on' all of the time, and then disconnect the battery when you are done crawling. You need to disconnect it anyway, since the BEC is always 'on'.

Where can i buy the 35 or the 45 motor from Tekin?
can someone point me to some stores please , i can't find
them on E-bay at all.

thanks

I have this ESC installed with a 45T Integy and 2S. Absolutely rocks!! "thumbsup" I havent actually tuned it much, did they bare bones to get it to work like the Rooster did, cept i have drag brake now. Used the drag brake properly for the first time this weekend and omg, that was ridiculously awesome!! In a spot that usually i pitch myself over and hope for a good roll, was now rolling down smooth as butter :-P

I recommend this ESC to anyone. I had the rooster and thought it was badass, but this thing was the same price and has 1/3 of the footprint, and onboard controls. Love it.

This thread sold me on the FXR - great info in here.

Re: Throttle Profiles:
Very soon, it's being worked on as I type. :)

...So if I order one today, it will not have different throttle profiles? Or are there already some, and these are different?

...And if they aren't there now, I will be able to add them in later with a firmware update, correct?

We have had some reports that our min throttle level is not as low as people would like. There is in fact a built in feature that starts the motor and then allows you to slow down to 0% drive. The lower levels will not drive the motor, but can provide resistance to roll back and act like a brake. The min throttle applied to start the motor is based on 2s and 27turn or faster brushed motors and may be a little high for the crawler motors. [/

For nerd reasons I am not going to explain…. Setting the throttle epa’s on your radio to max before calibrating will reduce this min throttle level some. We will release a new software shortly with better overall low speed performance including ‘super creep’

Yes the unit has some preset throttle profiles in it now. 2 concave with soft low end, linear, 2 convex with aggressive low end and room for the custom profile from the hotwire

Fxrpro has 2 power boards and twice the number of fets for more power handling. Slight thicker than the Fx but the same footprint and all the same features

Yet another reason why Tekin is the best in the industry...their products are the best, their support is the best, and they go out of their way to help and satisfy every single customer, no matter what they have to do! Thanks Mr. Tekin President!

It is a good ESC but I would like to see a lot more lower end control. It seems to be to much all at once for a crawler. It does not compare to my Mamba Max for the low end control. The drag brake is far better than my Mamba Max. I wish I could take both and stick them together I think you would have the best ESC on the market. I am trying to decide on the low end control or the stop and holding power.

There are a lot of factors that play into low end control (outside of the ESC).

What motors?
Brushes/Springs?
Vehicle (Single Motor vs. Dual Motor)?
Quality of Motor/Condition?

My FX-R lurched a little on the lowend with my Berg (Dual 35x1 Motor's) until I changed to 45x1's and it's a smooth as glass on the lowend.

The update for the throttle fix should be landing today and we will be able to release it shortly. ;)

It has come down to 35T motors and 3S lipo where the throttle isn't as smooth, it feels ridiculously smooth with 55T and 2S. We're gonna have it fixed soon fellas!

I have 2 Integy 45T V11 Motors on a Berg that are brand new. I will tell you it has no low end speed to it compared to the Mamba Max. I am not saying the FXR is a bad ESC I am just saying I would like to see more low end control. It looks like TEkin is working on the problem for us crawlers and I believe that will make the ESC a must have.

I'm running an FXR in my Super with tekin 55T's and love it"thumbsup" The drag brake is perfect, even with my heavy Hustler and moab's xl's.

Need some help here please fellas.

Can I use 2 FX-R's in my super and what the best way to wire them up ?

Do I need to use a seperate rx pack to power them ? or can I run them straight off my battery (7.2v)

You don't need to do anything special to run two ESC off the same receiver. If you turn one on, the other will turn on also, regardless of it's on/off switch position. Are you looking to run them on the same channel, or both on their own separate channel? It doesn't really make a difference, except that you'll need a spare channel, or a y-harness, but running two ESCs off the same channel is really pointless, other then it reduces the total current draw that one ESC would have with dual motors. If you intend to run some high torque servos, you might consider getting an external BEC and then removing the red wires from each ESC's lead. That way you'll free them of the extra load and they'll run cooler.

For those who think the throttle is to sensitive on the FXR, maybe you guys could dial in some expo on the throttle channel and soften the response, on the low end. I've run an FXR and it didn't feel anymore sensitive to me then other ESCs I have used.
