Kaetwo's Tekin FX-R Review...

Give this a shot;

1- Reset your radio to factory defaults for that model.
2- Next turn off your radio and turn on the ESC.
3- At this point hold down both buttons until the LED's dance.
4- Once this stops, your ESC should be factory zero'ed out and rebooted.
5- Now turn off the esc and turn back on your radio.
6- Now turn on the ESC.
7- Now where going to recalibrate the ESC by hold down the MODE button until it has a constant beep.
8- This is finding neutral.
9- Once it stops, give the radio full throttle and hold it, until it stops.
10- Then do the same for reverse.
11- Once it stops beeping, let the ESC sit for about 10 seconds and see if you have throttle control.

Wow, This thread is awesome. K2 and teamtekin you guys rock. Here is my situation and hopefully somebody can help me. first off here is what I have.
1) New Venom Creeper
2) TT 2102 = FX-R, 55t
3) DX2 and sr300 reciever
4) hitech servo which is 3 years old with only maybe 1 hr run time.
it is a 333 oz but I can not remeber # I think it is a hs-7955. The first
time I turned it w/out setting endpoints it ripped off the little metal
placard.
5)2 x-caliber 3 cell 11.1 volt 1300 mah lipo batteries, just picked
these up from Rockasassin, these are new and need the deans plugs
soldered up. I think they are from John at Holmes Hobbies. Also came
with a Super brain 977 pro series charger w/o ballancer.

I am new to electrics, been a nitro guy for about 5 years now.

After reading this entire thread I have come to the conclusion that I still need a BEC. I am not sure on how to wire on up.

Everything is still not on the Venom yet. I have the esc soldered up w/
male deans plugs. The motor w/ female deans. I will solder 3c lipos
w/female deans. I am new to Soldering and soldered esc vertical not
horizontal, hope fully no cold solder.
Anyway can someone draw me a diagram on how to wire up a BEC?
Someone posted a diagram a page or 2 back. The motor had 3 wires
on it. I think that is for brushless, not sure though. It was a little confusing. Somebody else mentioned cutting a red wire, then somebody
mentioned using a 3" servo extension. So this is where I am confused.

I think a diagram would help me out considerably.
I also need a BEC. I think Holmes Hobbies could help me out their
but I think I need an inline ballancer or something for the charger.
Not sure what to get and where to get it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kurt

Thanks Kaetwo,
I do have that manual with the FX-R. my concern is actually solering up
the cc bec. I have seen the diagrams under holmes hobbie vendor area
and it gave me a pretty good idea how to solder this up but, how?
I mean when you solder from for example bec to steer servo do you
just take off some of the insulation off the servo wire or take off all
insulation all the way around at about 1/8" wide or do you cut in half
strip all the wires back and solder all three back together. Is there different ways to connect other then solder. I hope I am not being a
pita but, I want to get this right. I sucks being a noobie.
Thanks again,
Kurt

I understand.

Here is an image that JohnRobHolmes put together that may make sense ;-)

This basically lets you remove the BEC without requiring a soldering iron. It's simple and easy to do "thumbsup"

I saw that post and could not figure it out. So I ignored it.
After you just posted it and I looked at it again the light switch
turned on. wow that is so simple now. One end goes to the reciever
and the other goes in line with battery viola. Thanks a bunch Kaetwo.
You rock dude. So do you John. I ordered my BEC from you a couple
days back.

I am in the process of looking for a new esc. I run a novak 55t brushed motor I believe?. And I had been eyeing this one. I also use the basic 7.2 6cell battery 3800mh. I will be purchasing a CC BEC as well, I run two servos.

Just so I am correct. This is the motor I run. This ESC will work with this?

Sorry for being uninformed. Just want to make sure. Thanks.

Anybody have any ideas of when Tekin 45t Combos will be back in stock. All shops seem to be out of stock any accurate stock dates?

I recommended a Tekin FXR and 45T motor combo to a friend, after he just got a new AX-10, his first crawler ever. He asked me what I thought a good set-up would be, and so with a bunch of research, I found this thread and the Tekin products sounded great. I showed this thread to him, and told him it would worth picking up. He bought the set-up, and I helped him solder and calibrate the ESC. I am really impressed with the Tekin FXR and 45T motor combo. It is extremely nice. Excellent control, and I am amazed at the small size of the FXR! I like this set-up so much that I will be buying two FXR / motor combos for my own crawler, except that right now, they are so popular, no has them in stock!

When I soldered up the connections for my friend's crawler, we also installed a Castle 10 BEC. I installed the Castle BEC with a Deans mini plug, so he could disconnect it, if he ever wanted to, or had to send it in for repairs/replacement, without having to un-solder anything. I simply soldered the two BEC wires right to the male plug of the Tekin FXR, and then cut the BEC wires about halfway back, then soldered the male/female Deans mini plug in between. It makes for a very nice, clean install, and the BEC can easily be removed anytime he wants. Make sure to solder the female mini plug to the 'hot' side of the input power, so that when you run without the BEC plugged in (if you do) there is no chance of the plug pins shorting out.

I'll ask him to get some photos of the set-up, if I can. Because of the external BEC, we simply popped the internal BEC red wire out of the Tekin's FXR plug and wrapped it up with some electrical tape, so that if we need to, we can always put it back in place and use the internal FXR's BEC like normal.
