Panther Cougars

if you're trying to stay low budget, go with the PL 8shooters, they're really nice wheels for the price, they mount tires easily and they hold pretty damn well.

Will do. Thanks.

I was worried that the eight-shooters might cause some trouble since they are more narrow that usual.

The set of panthers that I run in comps are on a 1" Eritex wheel and I haven't had any problems. I actually prefer for them to be on a narrow wheel.

Good info.

Will I need to cut the foams?

no. the narrow wheel will make your foam set-up a little stiffer, but it hasn't hurt performance. I think the new cut (more narrow) f400s ,are too skinny for a 1.25 wide wheel, but that's just me. There is a tiny chance that you may run across the older wide cut, but lately all that I have seen is the narrow cut.

I agree that the new 400's are too skinny. I have the older 400's in the rear of my Panthers and they are perfect. I recently bought the new 400's and they are significantly more narrow. If it were me, I would slice up another 400 and widen the rears a bit on a 1.25 wheel. I would imagine the new 400's would work better with a 1" wheel.

How do they compare to the HB rover (white)?:?:

They are better in a sense that the Cougar is a smaller tire. Rovers rubbed the hell out of my axle mounted lipo, and they also hit your shocks if you run them parallel.

The compound is soft, but nothing like the panther compound.

Both tires pretty much take the same lines the same way. Cougars require a little more steering work to grab onto slick surfaces when the rovers didn't need as much because they have crazy side bite.

I switched back to Cougars because the rovers are too big for me. I did like the extra pumpkin clearance (on a shafty) "thumbsup"

I got a set of panthers and 8 shooters. They don't hold the bead!:x Won't last a pack! Also the sidewalls roll over something awful with the stock foams. I just got a set of ace's foams I'm gonna try with stock axial wheels. The panthers are really soft and have really great traction but are so soft and floppy they don't hold a line or a sidehill. I hope the bigger foams fix it cause they are great climbers.

They do hold a bead. You probably aren't seating the Cougars right. I know sometimes it even looks like it's set but it isn't if you were to check.

Dump those memory foams and put in some panther f400s.:!:

and read this thread@ lol  ... especially the last few pages. I would say 90% of talk in this thread is foam talk.

Kinda funny the shooter/panther setup is the only combo I've had any trouble with. Also others are having trouble too according to this thread. Couldn't be the tires though, must be me.

I read the thread. Lots of opinions/options. Also read other threads/stuff and ask questions. The aces fill the panthers pretty nice and the axial wheels seem to lock the bead better. Haven't had a chance to run them but, looks good.

I value the opinions of the guys that are taking top spots at comps all around the country. And most are doing it with standard foam not memory foam.Hmmmmmm there could be something to that.

my cougars are running ten times better with stock axial foams then there mem foams that they came with :?: :?: :?: .................bob

hey Joe and other f400 users,

how often do you replace your foams? I'm asking because the front foams seem to be worn out when you pull them out after about a good month of driving.

I am replacing them every time i change tires. So about every 2-3 weeks."thumbsup"

Hey joe how far down are you letting your panthers get wore down? Mine are almost slicks and grabbing better then ever.:?:

I run them until the carcass starts to get thin in between the tread or the leading side of the tread is gone. Which ever comes first.

Hey Joe ever try a foam like these the black is hard Losi the wrap is ruby front pink rear?

Isn't that right out of the package?:ror::ror:JK.
Seems pretty expensive to keep competitive panthers on a car:shock::shock:

I think Joe runs way more than about anyone on the board. I'm only replacing them every couple of month."thumbsup"
