Another Jeep build..this time a TJ

May I call dibbs? I always drool over your jeep builds. Looking forward to seeing the updates"thumbsup"

Ill be updating soon. Ive been super busy with the holidays and all. I started a cage but then backed out of the design so i had to do another one. Its coming along though. Sometime next week i should have some pics.

How much frame are you cutting off for this build? I'm looking at about 2" but wanna make sure before I break out the dremel

OK i really need to pick it up! Been busy with other things but had some time to do a little work and heres where im at. Everything else should come easy (i hope). All fender work is done except for the holes needed to attach them to the body. Ill get to that soon.

After talking to Jeff who is the owner of ROKMEN which is the shop that builds the 1:1 rigs i base my build on he told me that the cage they would be building for the 1:1 would be pretty basic and be a slant back style. Here is a pic of thier latest build, RUNT, which is basically the direction they would go with the 1:1 im copying.

And here is where im at

Ive decided to switch up the tire choice. If i cant get my hands on a set of new axial walker evans, ill stick to the mud thrashers/VIOD combo.

So thats where im at. Nothing too special. I should be getting back to it since my kids will be off school next week. More to come......

Fan-freaking-tastic! I think you may have convinced me to build another Jeep. I really like how you built those front fenders. VERY impressive and clean work! I will more than likely be copying your exact design.

Just curious, but how are you planning on fitting an Axial trans as a t-case? Won't the spur really cause a fitment issue? One of the main reasons I've been skeptical to build an open top Jeep is because of the hassle in fitting everything underneath the shallow interior. So I'm really curious how you work it all out. "thumbsup"

Oh yeah, FWIW, I think those Invaders look to be a perfect size in comparison to the 1:1. :) But your new tire options also look like a good fit!

Thanks Tommy! Ya im gonna try out both sets of tires but after getting too many "i think the tires are too big" comments, it started to dwell on me and since i had a set of thrashers laying around i thought id see how they fit. With the thrashers i think it looks more like a TJ on 37's and with the invaders, it looks like the Jeep is on 40's or 42's!

About the t-case setup, i run an HPI GRU up front and lay down the axial tranny/t-case so it all fits. I would run a GCM or a killer t-case but im bieng cheap and have a bunch of axial trannys laying around. Heres how its done.

Ah, now I see! I assumed you were still going to run a spur somehow. What was I thinking?? LOL! Is that GRU unit very stout? What kind of power do you typically run? I've thought about them, but figured they'd grenade behind some horsepower?

Im not really sure how much they can handle. I run a 35t on 3s and it has enough wheel speed for me. Im sure there are better options out there but with the limited real estate i had to work with, this was my only option. they are cheap too so if i FUBAR one, ill buy another. Get to building another Jeep man! Yours was one of those that actually inspired me to build my first Jeep. Thanks! See what you started! Haha

LOL! Well, maybe I will start building another after all. I've been wanting a Class 2 build just so I can run some Pit Bulls. :ror: I just need to locate a New Bright TJ first! That's good info. about the GRU. I may have to look into one! "thumbsup"

God i lag! Well cage is 98% done.

Simple? Yes i know but im going for simplistic plus thats whats gonna be on the 1:1 that im trying to replicate. Yes? No? Im probably also gonna build a GENRIGHT cage for it so if i get bored of the slant back i can swap it out.

The cage looks great. The slant back design is traditional cage design for Jeeps. I kinda miss it on my 1:1 but the family needs protection too.

Once you get bored of it, hit me up"thumbsup"

In the first pic, the quarter panel looks like its a milimeter or 2 off, as in it's curving downwards. Or is it just because its not fully mounted?
