Hey RC Car Action readers...

Reality check ....
That magazine and all like it cater to the general population of the hobby . If that is the best rig that was submitted , then guess what ,than you guys should have submitted your builds and won hands down . It's a nice jeep , and the guy is proud of it , so be it .
I find the elitist attitudes with the RC hobby kind out of control , it is the reason I don't race or compete in the hobby. Grown men fighting over who's toy truck is nicer ....

There's elitist attitudes in pretty much every activity out there. That's life.

I think the focus of discussion revolves around how out of touch the mainstream print media is compared to the "most dedicated to the hobby." Its the same commentary you see in almost ALL hobbies.

I don't race or compete or anything, I purely make videos. So I try to bridge the gap and be friendly to everyone - magazine, expert or n00b - I mean exposure is exposure. I don't talk too bad about any product because I am liable to make a video with anything. (I mean I made a hardcore Mini Mauler video once!)

Am I the only one who finds it ironic that someone named USMCrawler is commenting on elitism? I mean, the Marines traditionally pound that "best of the best" et al. -type mantra into everyone....

I pick up and check the magazines when I'm at the store and readers rides is one of my favorite articals. I can asure you nay sayers that I have seen plenty of better looking scalers in that magazine!

Like it was posted earlier, some guys have the parts in a bin to put something better than this together.

Although rcca published my blazer in the nov or dec issue I wouldn't consider mine ride of the year but not having a custom cage or anything o would confided my stockish blazer better looking than that. Rc car action also had a readers rides special magazine last year and those were a great selection of rides. I wouldn't want too see this truck in the next readers rides special article

That's just my opinion.

I think it's a complete douche move to make fun of the guy. It's one thing to say RCCA sucks for their choice (which they usually do), but it's another ball game to start making fun of this guys jeep just because he was proud of the work he did and wanted to see it in a magazine.

It's immature, shows a lack of character, and makes the forum look like a bunch of dicks.

Anyone find it ironic that I served my country , am a combat veteran and am proud of it . I gave a lot so people like you could argue about your toy trucks , don't pick fights on the Internet , that wasn't my point.
I have a few hobbies , and RC has always proven to be a dick swinging contest . I ride a dual sport motorcycle , it's dirty , ugly and slow , and I ride with guys on $30,000 Harley's . In the motorcycle the world the only people that really have that attitude are the little boys on sports bikes , 99% of which have never been over 80mph on the thing .
Did you serve in the Marine Corps ? Doubt it .... What does my screen name have anything to do with anything ? Grow up dick .... Calling people you don't know out on the Internet is childish and plain sad.

aside from questionable reader rides... the vibe RCCA has is, not good?

Bald men acting like they are the god of little cars, while their advice is basically common sense and bolt on hop ups.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this thread really had nothing to do with this truck being selected by some magazine as its reader submitted truck of the year and it has nothing to do with the truck and the builder.

This thread was just an attempt at "pot stirring." It just backfired on them.

The thread poster looks like a DB, as do his little buddies (team a-holes, I think they proudly call themselves) that chimed in, but in their defense I don't think they really meant to insult the guy. They didn't think this through when posting and while they were trying to insult someone, again, I doubt they meant to the guy or his truck.

This thread isn't doing anyone any favors and should just be deleted.

If you guys don't like the magazine in question, and I doubt you do, you should email them some suggestions on content. It's kind of common sense. If you think other rigs should be showcased, submit them.

speaking of mags, is there one for crawlers instead of the short course? I reckon not with all this banter eh

RCCA and RCD have had crawler special issues, but so far I have not seen a mag dedicated to crawlers/scalers.

After reading through this I didn't read one negative post towards the builder of the rig just towards the "magazine"...

I do agree I see a bunch of assholes posting in this thread but those assholes have built and bought (baller:flipoff:) some of the finest rigs on RCC...

Like BD says "Juuuuust Saaaaayin"...

Maybe. To me, the general idea was this rig sucks and is good proof to why the magazine sucks. If that wasn't the intention, it serves as more reason to just delete the thread.

I don't what these guys have built, but there are some amazing rigs here. I am constantly impressed.

Someone say Asshole? Just checking in"thumbsup" I agree that the rig in question winning Ride of the Year is a pretty far stretch. I'm sure the builder did what he could with what he had. It looks like a fun rig for what it is. Is it the "Best of".... I don't think so either. I've seen plenty of submitted rides that could have been considered last year from that magazine. Could that rig been in the "readers rides"? Sure!

I was pretty shocked when I picked up my issue and saw that was the winner to. And I don't see anyone knocking on the builder, just the magazine. I wish we had Jason back at RC Driver!!!!!!!!!!! We saw quality, one off, custom and super nice rigs with great write ups"thumbsup" And the pictures were great to!

I think you have it right, at least when it comes to their interest in crawlers and the credibility that the crawling community gives them.

If they would do more to get involved other than throw bolt-ons onto a RTR every few months (if they do it that much) or classify a Summit as a crawler, they'd get much better reception from us.

Just the other night I was looking through some old mags when the person writing the crawling articles was actually a knowledgeable die-hard crawler. The rigs shown were mostly on-off custom built examples and the tips and tricks and whatnot were actually informative and for the most part, still relative.

TK beat me.

Any more it seems like its done by a go-fast guy who bolts on some shiny parts to some random rig which he has only a passing interest in.

Personally, I haven't gleaned any really useful information from an rc mag in a long time...other than where to shop. They all seem like one big showcase and review for new parts.

Matt's right, this is aimed at RCCA. Supposedly an industry "leader", which time and time again has proven to be hopelessly out of touch.

I din't see any disparaging remarks toward the rig which won. Just people pointing out that it isn't an extraordinary build compared to what you can find here on RCC, Scale 4x4, etc... The fact that a majority of crawlers don't send their builds to RCCA for consideration speaks to the lack of influence that RCCA holds in the market. Most would rather post up here on RCC, Scale 4x4, etc...

You suggest e-mailing "suggestions" to RCCA if we don't like the content?

Why, we made suggestions on content for years dirrectly to you and Brandon and were did that get us?

Again, no ill will was intended toward the winner. This was aimed dirrectly at RCCA and their continuing un-remarkable content.

Nitro crawlers FTW! :flipoff:

Here is a great idea

How about the magazines actually do some leg work
MattH you said it yourself you seen rigs on here that amaze you. How about magazines actually contact such builders on sites like these insted of waiting for pics and companies to send you their shit? What ever comes in the mail that week is more than likely going to end up in the magazine... Am I right?

Contacting builders on here would show more intrest in this aspect of the hobby than waiting for it to fall in your lap. I can think of at least 10 differNt guys you could contact and feature their rigs.

Journalism. Hmmmm Accually doing work?

From what I've read, the owners would have to send their rigs to the magazine, and in the past that has not turned out to be a good thing.

I was kinda feeling that thought while reading but wasn't sure.

I guess that makes since on why I was reading about a lame ass sailboat that nobody is going to buy instead of such amazing scalers here on RCC?
