DLUX super build

BIG thanks for posting this.

I went to Joanns and got more foam for the tires that 53 willys made. I took a hole saw for the middle and that turned out perfect. Then I just cut the O.D. on my bandsaw. Not perfect since I didnt build a jig but, pretty close and a really nice cut on the O.D.

Also, if anybody is going to Joanns for the foam, I found out they normally have a 50% off coupon on their website all the time. I got 3pcs of foam for about $3.50. Cant beat $1ea foam!

Thanks!

Yeah, should have stuck around. Judging and running 3 classes in the winter was tough! Gomer and I finished the day right as the sun went down.

I got some of the hardest to get, blingiest, lightest, most expensive spring cups on the planet. Thanks Geo!!

Pretty hard to see but, it actually helps me out with clearances a bit too.

Thanks for the props on the "gcups". Glad they are working for you.

Man, those are cool! I wish i know someone that could make me a set like that:cry:
Word on the street says they guy that makes those might get a vendor star or have somebody with a vendor star sell them for him.

Working on weight reduction with this car.....

I was waiting to drill out my gears to lose some weight. The only thing that really sketched me out about the Bergs in the super size were the gear box pins. I had broken a couple in my 2.2 so I knew it was something that I wanted to address. So, on my super and 2.2 I took all the gears and upgraded the pin size to 3/32. Pretty significant difference in size. Now I feel pretty good about the strength of this car.

Plenty of meat on the smaller gears still

While I had the gears out I wanted to reduce the weight of each gear so, I milled all of those out too. Good for about 4-5g per gear, 24g for the whole car. I am going to try RCbros AL locker when he has more. If I remember right that should be good for another 10g or so per locker or another 20g.

I finally got a CF version of this chassis. I also put in a couple extra holes front and rear so I can drop the height a bit lower if I want. If not, I will simply cut the ends off to the standard size. Looks like it was good for 1oz in weight loss. I was hoping for more but I will take it.

Yeah, there was a lot of slop. I am guessing that there is that much in a stock setup though.

I did the bearing mod for the king pins and then put locktite between the bearing and knuckle and also between the bearing and axle shaft. Its really nice and tight now.

I am not really that familiar with the Bully housings. I would guess that they could be turned down to accept an AX10 Chub. What is the o.d. and the i.d. of the housing?

Posting from my 2.2 thread for the info:

If anybody else pursues the Bully axle mod, here is some info. I am staying with the cast knuckle but I bought some machined knuckles for the rear of my super so I thought I would post the info.

14g for machined knuckle

Also, like my 2.2, I wanted to weigh my supers corner weight to see if I needed to adjust for balance. I thought for sure the motor side would be much heavier. Not too bad though.

I switched out my rear knuckles for the cast ones hoping to get this car under 7lbs along with a couple other tricks but it does not look like its going to happen for now. I am sitting at 7lb 3oz RTR with battery. Thats with 7.2oz of knuckle weight per side and the heavier cast knuckles in the front so almost 8oz of extra knuckle weight over what a machined knuckle would give.

Thats good to know Erik, that would be a full ounce just by swapping knuckles, 2 ounces if front and rear were swapped out "thumbsup".
