Szczerba's 2012 Secret Agent'd 4.0 Berg

Re: Szczerba's 2012 Secret Agent'd Berg

I am loving all the tech in here Shane. Definitely keep us updated as you keep trying different things! I will eventually be rebuilding my berg on an agent chassis also and this has been a great read so far. "thumbsup"

Re: Szczerba's 2012 Secret Agent'd Berg

Well, I dont have any sort of explanation for it, but the things that most guys arent liking with the 8* setup, I dont see on my berg using the bigron weight system....that is the only difference that I can think of...

I'm curious how much castor differences between different rigs play in that as well.

Re: Szczerba's 2012 Secret Agent'd Berg

What do you think I made these with? A drill press is all you need, man! :ror:

That doesn't count. Yer smart.

Thanks. I keep having to drop back and punt. I've been getting some outside suggestions here and there too. Thanks to you, Jeremy and Ashton. "thumbsup"

With my 8 Deg setup, I kept the caster pretty tame. I think too much with 8 deg and things got really weird.
It's pretty tame with the 0 Deg setup too.

X2. I have the same set up as Jeremy and i'm really pleased with how it works. The low weight is awesome. I tried more caster, but it drove terribly. 8* with low weight on the stock caster for Ccd tubes seems right.

Good to know. Guess I need to get cracking on the other side weights.

Only smart enough to keep my fingers out of the way. :ror:

Drill presses can scare me every now and then. One slip and things are about to fly.

Not too mention, drill press bearings are not designed for side loading and will cause premature failure to your drill press. If you want to mill, get a mill "thumbsup"

Re: Szczerba's 2012 Secret Agent'd Berg

Dont slip..."thumbsup"

Try not too. My grandpa had an accident with a drill press. Nearly took half of his fingers off.

Yea, you can watch when a drill bit bends ever so slightly. That's scary enough. I won't be doing any milling with my drill press. Well, only tire milling. "thumbsup"

Got the other side homemade $6 knuckle weights done. They are 1.7 oz each. I went and did some testing. When i had no weight on the front end, the truck wouldn't get up a gap/crack climb on my rock pile. Added the 3.5oz each base weights and it pulled right up it.
So going back to that same line with the 1.7oz on each side (in the dark with a head lap on "thumbsup" ) the truck went up the line easy. I think I will make some more half rings and put them on the top and try to get to around 2oz total each weight.
Truck is 5lbs 0.1oz right now. Feels kinda light but still making the uphill climbs the heavier setup would. Well, that was just one pack worth of testing in the dark.

Re: Szczerba's 2012 Secret Agent'd Berg

Added 0.3 oz to each knuckle weight. (I know it's only 0.3 oz on each side but small weight changes change up the truck)

That totals up to 2oz on each side in homemade weights. I am thinking this will be a good weight. 1oz on each side was too light and 3.5oz on each side was a touch too heavy feeling.

I'll get some packs through it tomorrow.
And I acquired a parma body. Not sure on colors yet. Will be a simple one color paint job.
Ordered up some Gunnar body mounts too. "thumbsup"

Re: Szczerba's 2012 Secret Agent'd Berg

Looking good Shane!

Very nice. "thumbsup"

Thanks guys. I'm going to run it tomorrow at the ARCC comp and see how it does. Switched to reds up front and orange springs out back. I did get some 1.2lb Losi blacks in. Might try those when I get back.

Hack, cut, Gunnar Body mounts, more hacking and some paint and stickers.

Re: Szczerba's 2012 Secret Agent'd Berg

Nice..........................

Thanks Bro....................

Couple notes about this rig at 5lbs 2oz.

1. A light truck with a light front end pushes alot more. Tough to make easy turns. Quick fix? Turn the rear motors down to 90-95%. Didn't figure that out til after the comp (thanks Helhedded).

2. Verticals are a little tougher to climb but some bumps just before the face can help you out. The steering setup was still allowing me grab ledges pretty easy.

3. Alot more "quickness" out of the motors.

4. I obviously need more drive time with this truck. I had a couple bad bounces and a just didn't have a good overall feel for the truck.

If I add more weight to the top side of my knuckle weights it will only get me to say 2.4 oz each side and I have to stay at the wider width. think I am 10.75-11" wide right now. Can't remember off the top of my head.
So I ordered up some D-Lux knuckle weights. His base weights are 2.4oz each and I can always add more and still get a narrower width.

Comp pictures coming up.

Got a set of the final production Closed Cell Inner Foams from. CrawlerInnovations. Inners are available in the 5.5" or 6.0" setup right now.
Final Production inners on left. Prototype testing and abused closed cell inners on right. :ror:

The balance point is about 1/4" -1/2" behind the lower link mounting holes on the chassis.

What do you mean by total weight, front/rear?
