well, we just picked up one of those neat keurig machines. ma is a coffee drinker, i'm an iced tea drinker, so it makes some sense.

the problem is with both is that ma likes coffee, but can't finish off a whole pot, and a twice warmed pot tastes terrible. i like tea, but brewing a whole batch takes up the commonly used dishes, and the standard jugs of arizona take a lot of fridge space.

so we finally bit the bullet and picked one of these up since it took off and the cups aren't going to get obsolete (and we picked up the screen cup to use your own). picked up a couple kinds of teas and coffees and teas, and set to work.

i have to say that this thing rocks! for iced tea (celestial seasonings half and half), just put the mug filled with ice under the tap, stick the little cup in the top, push button and go. really can't ask for anything better than that, it beats standing around a pot of water brewing tea and trying to get it consistent.

for ma, the quick cup of coffee in the morning is better than stir in instant (i'd rather lick my dog's ass than drink a cup of that, but again, not a coffee person) and it stinks up the house nice without wasting all the coffee we would normally.

it was a pretty high initial investment, but having either coffee or tea on the push of a button for us is very nice. it is more expensive than standard stuff, but if half of what you end up brewing end in the sink, why bother.

one of the lower end models, but the more expensive ones with more options would just be a pain for ma (not a technology fan)

have to say that looks like a damn sweet machine! a little too much budget wise for us though. all the self cleaning features and adjustments you described really would be worth the money for a serious coffee drinker.

We waited about 6 years to get one.

There's no daily cleaning. It will prompt you when it needs water/beans, or when the drip tray needs to be emptied.

When you first set it up you use Ph strips to test water hardness. You enter that number into the machine and it will prompt you when it needs to have a descaling tablet tossed in the water container before running the automated program.

It will also let you know when the brew unit needs to be cleaned.

It's the best machine we've had and the flavor of the coffee is so much better with the same beans.

We weighed the cost of the machine, how much coffee we drink, how much we had been brewing with the old machine and actually drinking, and it was worth it to wait and get the nice machine. Made no sense to have to brew four cups only to drink two and let the other two sit and burn or get tossed.

We actually spend less per month on coffee with this machine because we don't waste coffee.

We got a Keurig last year for most of the reasons you listed. I make two cups every morning.
I have tried several coffees that come in the Pre made k-cups and the grind our own setup. I prefer the k-cups. Less mess.
Like I said I have tried tons of k-cups. Some good, some horrible. Best k-cup coffee to date for me is the Great Value rite stuff. No lie. I will spend whatever it takes for good coffee, so money isn't an issue for me. When it comes to coffee. Lol. This stuff is cheap and better than most I have tried that are twice the cost.

The wife bought one and I quit drinking coffee at home. I like the Dunkin coffee, but I had to load it twice to get it anywhere near strong enough for my liking. Once i used 2 pods a morning, plus cream and splenda it is just cheaper to run down the street to the gas station and get the coffee I like. The rest of the fam loves it.

we eat a lot of the great value foods to begin with. they taste just as good as the more expensive stuff in most cases. i'll have to pickup a pack of those and a pack of iced tea next time i'm out and about/ "thumbsup"

We've had one for a little over a year and I am not a coffee drinker (redbull addict).. But for some nice teas I've really become accustomed to the TAZO line. They have a really good green tea called zen and a black tea called awake and both are very full flavored. I've tried a few others and they seemed okay but compared to the TAZO IMHO they may as well have been the cheap dairymen's .99 gallon teas.....

i'll have to give the TAZO line a try, not much on green tea, but the black tea sounds interesting. the celestial stuff half and half (black and lemonade) is some tasty stuff, but always interested in new tastes.

why not go with the brew-your-own cup? then the convenience is there, and you are nuking what you already have on hand. we got the keurig brand one, it replaces the lower piercing cup and is pretty easy to use. twist the cap off, load your coffee in the screen cup, and roll out.

I was thinking about a Keurig for my girlfriend's birthday, but we went away for the weekend instead. I'd still like to get one, and I like the option of using your own coffee since we roast a lot of our own beans as well. Might have to look into one of these to replace the French Press.

exactly my thoughts, though i can see where the money goes from JIA's description of the machine. if you want the best in push button coffees, its not cheap.
