My knees are hurting bad anymore, anybody here tried any of those otc pills that are supposed help with cushioning knee joints?

Don't believe any of that marketing crap. If the product is not FDA approved for the indication (not just FDA approved to not kill you), don't buy it.

Talk to your doctor and/or get a referral for a rheumatologist if your problem is arthritic in nature. Lucky for you knee replacements are very routine these days.

I have had crap knees for years. I have found that QUALITY shoes with custom inserts help a lot.

If your husky, work on the weight. I'm down 70lbs and that in and of it self works wonders for the pain.

I take Ibuprofen for joint pain. It's an anti-inflammatory and helps tremendously. Never tried anything else

Gnaw the ends of chicken bones to help build joint cartilage. Wait...this might not be an FDA approved use of chicken gristle.

For occasional joint pain you might try ibuprofen. Losing weight, as mentioned, can help. Don't wear cushiony type 'running' shoes unless you are running.

What?

I stand on concrete for 8 hours. Skateboarded and rode bikes. Bad joints. Buying New Balance cheap old man running shoes has helped tremendously. Contrary to what someone just posted

Something that hasn't been asked; how much time do you spend sitting every day? My knees (one in particular) used to bother me a lot after taking a desk job if I did anything active or stood for long periods of time. Getting back into an exercise routine which started out by simply walking every day has helped tremendously as it strengthens all the muscles. That accomplishes two things; one it gets your legs used to supporting your weight during activity again, and two it strengthens and stabilizes your joints. Seriously, you'd be surprised if you have a pretty sedentary job / lifestyle.

Possibly. See your physician. Exercise does not help arthritis, if that is your problem.

BJoe,
Taking Allopurinol, Glucosamine C, and my blood pressure meds...

I've got knee problems and am in phys therapy. Long story short, the wrong running shoe caused plantar faciaiitis, then calf pain, then knee pain, aggrivated an old injury. Now I am getting rehab done.

Doc originally prescribed orthotics for the plantar stuff. Just hurt more. Finally got new running shoes and life is getting better. The gout in the foot doesn't help me either... Too young for this crap.

Hope all works out for ya. PM me if you want more info.

This!
Treating arthritis depends on what type of arthritis you may have. Two main groups, OA or RA with sub categories of both. I've had RA most of my adult life. It is basically inflammation of the joints where the OA is deterioration of the "cushion" in the joints.
Any NSAID based medicine helps with RA. Aspirin, Advil, etc...! I take two Aleve morning and it helps a bit. Prescrips are to harsh with the heartburn for me. Somedays nothing really helps, like bad weather days. I used to think older people were silly when they said a weather front was coming because their arthritis was "acting up". Now I am a firm believer of the tale now. This funky weather we've had here this year has been killer on the joints(Knees and wrists mostly)

Barometric pressure affects lots of things.

When I was a kid, I used to think my dad was full of shit when he told me that he had plants that could predict rain.....until I saw it. I have since put those plants in the yard of every house I have owned.

I have dealt with joint pain myself.
I had a misdiagnosed dislocated shoulder for 3 years.
Heat & moisture (super hot showers like 6-10 times a day) would help me.
I would be very careful of pills for pain relief.
Ibuprofen is TERRIBLE on your liver & you develop a tolerance for it (so you take more to get the same effect!!)
Anaprox Sodium is a bit less destructive & you take far less to get the anti inflammatory effect.
Any regular use of either make sure & drink PLENTY of water.
I only take pills when I must, thus they work when I need them.
Be careful not to over medicate.
I have a friend with chronic arthritis & he takes Glucosamine & Chondroitin, it takes a while to build up in your body & is not cheap but he has found relief from it. It is a regular regimen not a take when you need kind of thing.

Most doctors treat pain with Vicodin. Lots and lots of it. Makes for a fun comp, but makes day to day thinking a little on the slow side.

My foot doctor said he will not wear anything but New Balance shoes. I also went with some OTC shoe inserts, best $50 I have spent. Helped my feet and knees. Back still hurts like it is going to fall off, but it has not yet, so until then.................

And see a doctor.
