Savox servo issues with Vanquish servo horn...

Anyone with a savox servo have issues mounting the vanquish servo horn? I just got the vp 25T horn and savox 2290 servo. I cannot push the servo horn on to the servo. It's like the splines are too tight. I can fit the axial servo horn on it without and issue. I can fit the vanquish servo horn on my promodeler servo without an issue. I don't get it. Thoughts? I have contacted Harley and he is looking into it.

Did you loosen the clamping screws? I'd take the clamping screws out, use a longer screw to pull the horn onto the splines and a small flat tip screwdriver to pry the horn apart slightly.

Yup, new is tight, also a #11 blade between and twist to help open

I recollect my alloy Axial 25t clamping horn required similar ^

I had to expand the horn's slit opening a little to get it to slide on my 2290's output.
I used a thin flat screw driver inserted and twisted slightly to open more.

Don't think I had to take the clamp securing screws out completely...
but I did have to back them out enough to allow for slight separation.
Probably easier just to remove them momentarily.

Don't twist the screwdriver so much as to bend the alloy horn permanently...
just a little outward pressure is enough to press the horn on.

The 2290 required I do this...
but the other Savox servos I have don't.

Must be that the 2290's output diameter is a hair bigger ?

Horn should fit fine if expanded slightly when pressing on.

Don't forget to put the clamping screws back in, if ya remove them.

Still can't get it and the servo horn is too long anyway. Need the 20mm version when it comes out. For sale section we go!

would be difficult to spread apart...
'cuz the slit cut is centered and not cut thru to the end.

You could probably just extend the cut/slit yourself.

I utilize the Axial horn...

the clamping slit is cut all the way to the end and can be spread apart easily.

Yup. That's the one. I have no issues with axial servo horn.

I remember mine was tight with a new axial servo horn but it went on. Just use a flathead screw driver to pry it open a hair. Then use a bolt to seat it all the way on.

Just installed one on the Holmes HV500, was snug but went on without prying open. Looks nice.

Will check the Protek 370 soon.

It can't be pried apart... because the cut doesn't go thru to the end.
Whereas other alloy clamping type servo horns do.

I personally think Vanquish dropped the ball on this design.

what's a HH's HV500 got to do with the Vanquish horn fitting a Savox ?

Me personally won't be buying Vanquish's version of a clamping servo horn.
Unless they fix their design and make it fit correctly.
I refuse to pay solely for a brand or name.

If I had one already...

I'd likely use my cut off wheel and open the end.
Would probably fit just fine then.

His info pertains to a part discussed in this thread so it is fully relevant. Savox uses a slightly shallower spline cut or perhaps a different pressure angle on the splines on the 2290 than some other manufacturers. I haven't had any issues with it since I'm using open ended servo horns but the VP piece likely has a more precise tolerance than my Wang Kang phui arm from hobbyking.com :lol:

I'd have cut the end on the VP arm too, no argument there whatsoever.

but I surely wouldn't mind knowing the facts on that.

My SB 2290 SG came with an alloy double arm, clamping type servo horn...
never even attempted to fit it, as it looked to be too long for my rig.

Did you fit that to your 2290 ?

but not enough to pull my existing one off to check that.

I did install the 2290 alloy horn on my spare 1230 tho'
fits a little loose... tho' that's without installing the clamping screws.
Splines seem to line up right tho.
So I think if it were clamped... it would likely tighten up just fine.

edit: so I installed the clamping screws just to see.
Sure enough it will tighten enough to eliminate any play
when installed on a 1230.

Curious as to why the SB 2290 SG's output/spline shaft is different then the other Savox servos ?

Not really complaining... just curious.

I just sold my vp horn and got another axial horn. Fits perfect on the 2290
