LSXGMC's Axial SCX10-II K10 Pickup w/ GCM LRT2

I just ordered a clod body to mess around with and have been looking for K10 builds to get some inspiration. I came across this build and Bob tonight and have read through both of them.

I"m looking forward to getting started on mine but after reading your threads wish I'd bought the blazer body instead.

Really awesome builds!

Thanks, Brian! I originally looked at the Clodbuster body as well, until this body came out. The kit is really impressive - comes with the interior, lenses, hinges, windows, everything you need really. If you aren't too invested into the Clod body, I'd highly recommend picking up one of these. They are well worth the price!

Like any truck that’s “done”, there’s always room for improvement. The driveshafts in this truck were bugging me (stock Wild Boar shafts) in the looks department, so I replaced them with some shafts from Devil RC, purchased from Locked Up RC. They seem really well made and look great!

my SCX10 II still in stock wheelbase, so what driveshafts length are fit? in mm please "thumbsup"

I'm guessing he wants to know how long your driveshafts are with the altered wheelbase to fit the Chevy body.

How do you like you drive shaft upgrade (durability, sloppy fit or nice and tight, etc.)?

What length did you end up using to work with the GCM LRT2 transmission?

Thanks

I’ve since sold the truck but I was very happy with them, little to no slop - night and day better than a Junfac shaft in my opinion. Can’t speak to longevity though.

My lengths were a little off because I had an extended rear wheelbase, but the GCM setup uses factory driveshafts.

I know you showed me these photos before, but I can't get over how perfect those 1.55 Rock Beasts look on 1.9 wheels. Normally I also hate the stretched tire look, but this combo appears to be made for it! "thumbsup"

Is this GCM trans/T-case the one that offers front overdrive?

Yes - their scale transmission and LRT2 transfer case combo is the only SCX10 conversion they offer. The LRT2 transfer case overdrives the front axle. They've actually got a TF2 conversion kit coming out as well ;). They use the same trans/Tcase combo in the CMAX trucks too. It really is a solid option.

Now I want to build another SCX10 II to use this transmission! And I could use my unused SSD Diamond Pro axles. But I'm starting to fall in love with the VP axles. So much want!

I was able to get the truck out for it’s very first run here today for about 4.5 hours. I had a blast with it! I definitely notice the smaller tires, the truck gets hung up a little more than I’m used to but overall is still very capable. I only had one problem and that was the nut loosening off the steering link to servo arm screw.

Within the first 20 feet I picked up a boulder. This wasn’t fun. I was pretty nervous trying to get it out!

I really liked your blazer and this one is spot on itself. Very nice build.

Thanks. If there’s one truck I’ve built that I’ve regretting selling it was this one. Miss it every day!

How smooth are those diamond axles? Have you tried them at all yet?

Hopefully that just means we'll get to see another and you will only improve. That is not to say this one isn't just about perfect. I look forward to your next build. "thumbsup"

I have a set of Pro44’s with all SSD internals except for the axle shafts which are both VP.

I am a big fan of SSD but I found them difficult to get smooth, required shimming the locker which I never had to do on stock axles or VP Rock Jocks.

I have the front axle pretty smooth but the rear feels pretty gross still. I had to shave down the length of the VP rear axle shafts quite a bit as they were touching in the center which wouldn’t allow me to get the lockouts on the axle housing.

Both companies make these products to work with stock AR44 axles so there shouldn’t have been any figment issues whatsoever. And I especially shouldn’t have had to shim the lockers to make sure the ring gear didn’t slide side to side!

Thanks for the nice words. I think thats my issue is that I built that truck using all the parts I’d ever want, made all the changes to the body that I’d ever want, I am just not sure what to do next!

I got my locker and bevel set in today, thankfully didnt require any shimming and seem to fit perfectly.
