2017 Scale Rules

Ok here is a question. Would love to have the SORRCA rule makers thoughts.

Rule in question: • No bolt on or stick on external axle or knuckle weights of any kind

Would a Traxxas TRX-4 having a outer portal cover (this is not the knuckle, but touches it in a sense) made of Brass be allowable?
It is the knuckle. It is required for the knuckles to function properly.

Let me see if I am taking this right. If a weight is bolted to a knuckle it is ok now?

No.

Another weight bolted to a knuckle is not. MIND BLOWN.

Incorrect. I think I've spent an abundance of time at this point talking about the difference between a knuckle weight and a heavy part. I think you probably get it, but just don't like the answer.

At this point all should be made legal.

We will consider your opinion.

If the intention of the rule was to eliminate weights with high mass below the axle. Why not just do that. Change the rule to "No add on weights that are only below the center line of the stub axle". Please give the rest of us our weights back.

That was not the intention of the rule.

Why not just ban brass as a building material?

Then folks would just go to another material, or paint the brass stuff and cheat. Also, as mentioned, there are legitimate brass parts out there (knuckle bushings come to mind). I have some steel knuckles on my shelf that would give any of the brass parts a run for their money. :ror:

Adding some fuel to the fire here...

What is the difference between the brass portal covers on the TRX4, and brass beef tubes in a SCX10? They are both functional parts that add weight/mass down low.

What's the consensus on rear window defrosters, non functional point or no?

Since they are scratches on the rear window....no.

Does the traxxas trx4 get transfer case points?

The kit SCX10-2 has a separate t-case so it gets points. I haven't looked at an actual TRX4 transmission, but I don't think it has a separate t-case does it?

No the tcase on the trx4 is built into half of the trans housing.

I have brass wire that is close to the right diameter, but not nearly enough of it to get it installed by Friday's comp. Nor do I have that fancy conductive ink, where I could then wire it up too and get functional points, lol.
