4PK Setups, Tips, Tricks and Help

My 4pk will not let me change my menu type? Is there something else I have to do. Tried doing it according to the manual and its still on type 2:evil:

I just replied to your message on YouTube as well. You can use a lipo like in any other electric vehicle. The Nimh reference is in reference to nitro vehicles "thumbsup"

Harley or others. Just read and re-read the thread and ordered a 4PK and case. I am going to build a berg. EnRoute CRL-101 kit.

I need help on components. My original idea was:

front and rear steer (independant (no circle or crab)
front and rear dig. (PunkRC I think)

But looking at your recommendations, it sounds like I should ditch the rear steer and go with dual ESC so I have more control over axle speeds. I am not sure what mixing means, and have not received the 4PK to play with it.

On motor, I am leaning toward Holmes Hobbies Handwound 35T.

ESC - Holmes Hobbies TorqueMaster, or CC mambo Max Pro, do I also need CC-BEC?

I have read so much over the last 2 weeks, that I have myself confused.

Batteries 3s LiPo. But I see on the Fubata servo S9157 (that you run) that is says NiCad only, will the CC-BEC fix that?

This will be a basher (non comp) at local 1:1 ORV parks. I am trying to get some 1:1 intrest in this sport as a night time activity, as we cannot ride our 1:1 at night in the parks.

Sorry for so many questions, but I have read a lot of your (Harley) theads, and value your input.

CC makes a BEC pro for supporting dual ESCs so you might want to go that way

Holmes Hobbies TorqueMaster is the new shiney... built for and buy a crawler, but the back order is a few weeks out

The Servo should be fine since the ESC and/or BEC will handle the power supply

Holmes Hobbies Handwounds are great... I am running a 25t that just wants to either up the wall, or though it... not sure which

The berg is the way to go in my opinions so good choice.
  • I do suggest that you go with dual ESC's as opposed to the Punk dig. You will have way more control. I suggest Tekin FXR's because they are small and have great drag brake.
  • Don't worry about going with 4WS though as it is not legal in the 2.2 class (even if you don't plan on competing it just isn't needed). If you do want to go with rear steer, you can still run dual ESC's (reference my super class setup).
  • The Nimh warning on the servo is in reference to nitro cars that use a RX pack. You are fine running a 3s lipo.
  • Holmes Hobbies Handwounds are the best, they get my vote. 35t motors are perfect especially if you are running nice light weight wheels. I just switched to Vanquish SLW's and am in LOVE with them!
  • Pick up just a regular Castle Creations BEC (no need for a BEC Pro)

The 4PK is an amazing radio and can do damn near anything it seems. Feel free to PM or email me if you have questions on equipment choices to compliment the radio. I support vendors that I feel support us best, so check out these guys for your parts:

Thanks Harley. I got the parts ordered. Went with all your suggestions. Let the build begin!

I am sure this has been covered a few times in the past 30 pages of this thread but where is the cheapest place to pick the 4PK up??

Harley, got the 4PK in and set it up like your MOA recommendations. However, when I look at your thottle (in your video) verses mine, it is backwards. When I pull in on the trigger, the band goes left. Did I do something wrong? It has only been put in display mode as electonics are to arrive in a few munites, if the bruwn truck tracking it correct!

Also, I see in the video, that you moved the steering knob down using the adapter. Do you like that position better, or did you return it to the standard position?

Thanks, AGAIN.

go back to the first page and check out his setups for the super and MOA with 1 ESC.

This should have all the info you need.

Congrats on the new radio!!

i have it set up like the 1esc moa set up but i cant seem to get the rear steer to do anything

You are scrolling down to the execute selection and hitting the + and - at the same time?

One thing I noticed with that, is you have to hold them both down for a good second or two, then it'll finally execute. I ran into the same problem when I first got mine and finally figured it out.

Huge thanks to Harley for posting up the guides for programming the 4PK. I got mine a few weeks ago and had it all set up for dual esc's in less than 10 minutes. Unfortunately, one of my Tekins was acting up and I had to go back to a punkdig switch until my other FXR comes back. No problem though, as I looked up the guide on programming the 4PK for a switch and got it done in just a couple minutes as well.

The 4PK is an amazing radio that is definitely worth the price difference between it and something like a DX3R. As far as overall features, they're not even close, the 4PK is so much more capable and built MUCH better, not to mention more reliable.

i have it set up like the 1esc moa set up but i cant seem to get the rear steer to do anything

Ch 1: steer
Ch 2: esc
Ch 3: punk
Ch 4: rear steer

You need to set channel 3 up on one of the dials (DT1 2 or 3). Set the step value to 100.

Also set channel 4 up on one of the DT buttons for independant rear control. Set the step value to 20 to start.

Then setup Pmix1
mst: throttle
slv: channel 4
left: -100
right: -100
Set to ACT (not INH)

then go to the Switch menu, setup PS1 or PS2 as Pmix1. Now if when you hit the button the rear steer doesn't always turn with the steering (meaning you have to hold the button) then go back to the switch menu and change the value to the right of Pmix1 (should change to alt I believe).

If this is all too confusing let me know and I will do a video for you.
