73' Bronco-MOA to Creeper conversion

.............3 minutes running my living room....on tile...blew a new pinion. One of the replacement units venom sent me. I rolled the axle, sits level at ride height. One thing I have not done is swap the ring. It looks fine but I dunno.

Okay, that's it..this thing is going on the shelf till I can stand to look at it again. Rear drive line set screw will not stay tight, front pinion out again last night and the I blew a yoke on the front drive line. All while driving around a car show. Maybe my wheel base is too short for this drive train. I dunno. I need to drop some money into it and the 55 is getting major investment right now. The bronco is dead in the water at this time.

think I got the pinion issue figured out, but over the weekend i destroyed both of my venom drive lines while installed on the front, have a axial shaft on the rear and it seems fine. I am hoping it was just to much power, both happened when in a bind, but rally i was not giving it that much power...oh well, set of G-mades are on the sway now so i sure the transmission will be the next to to LOL.

SOOOOO, this happened:

LOL, First day out my front diff gave out on one side so i ran around the whole day in 3 wheel drive (still did pretty well). Got back to camp that evening and packed the diff with some JB putty and all was good. went out the next morning, was just creeping down the bank into the creek, missed a tire hold and she rolled in. hit that rear tire and that was it. did a rad correctly here a while back that someone makes a solid C-hub for these? if so, anyone got a link to those? I had also had a clicking noise coming from the rear for a few days now, thought it was just some debris in the pumpkin, well turns out it was the bearing in this same wheel, roughest bearing I have ever handled that was not locked up. is anyone using any aftermarket bearings or are you just getting them from Venom?

also just realized i have never really paid attention to the shafts, i always pull them with the tie rods and in place and just put it all back together as one piece, i assume the the long shaft goes on the locker side, right?

Venom diff locks are nice. You need to ad a thin aluminum from a soda can or the diff lock is a bit loose. I did this to mine and it has been great. RMDW lockers are good too but more expensive.

also, has anyone else put in the Hot racing solid adapters? did you have some extra lateral play in the shaft??

Oh, i think i figured out the pinion issue, (though i met another guy this weekend who is having the same problems) this last time when i swapped the pinion out, the inner bearing fell out in pieces. this is the second stock bearing i have has fail already, i have some fast eddy's i will put in. hope the issue is just cheap bearings.

maybe i am too heavy, the 3s probably plays into the issues too....I went through a full set of shafts in the front axle in about 2 hours Saturday. Still running the the stock design, can you even get the XVd's for the creeper anymore? I did not see anything on RC4WD designated creeper. searches on this forum and in the two tips and tricks threads did not turn up much info on them, looks like the last time any one talked about them was a year ago. also, i have the hot racing straight axle housing adapters but does anyone make solid shafts for the rear? other then that issue, this thing does great now, even in three wheel drive i was able to keep up with the pack and hardly used the pus-trails more then i normally would have.

Either you have some crazy power or you run it like you stole it lol. I ran 3s as well and didnt have any axle issues until I had a few drinks and got stupid. One thing that will help alot is upgrading the trans to one with a slipper. It sure helps on breakage. I put one purposely on my 5yo sons rig as he doesnt know not to pin it if it binds. He hasnt broke anything and he runs it like he stole it. The one day I came outside and he tied a rope to it and was pulling my daughter on her powerwheels jeep through the yard with his crawler because the battery went dead.

I wasn't knocking your product just saying. The venom one is a solid hunk of steel so it wont break either so IMO either one is a good deal.

i can see now where the lincolns are a better choice, still a lot of slop between the venom locker and the housing, poor fit and finish. I might trade up at the first of the year, first I need to get the rest of the drive train in order.

I am rough on it, I will be the first to admit it. But i don't demand anything out of it that I don't feel it should be able to do and it will only get worse as i start to mod the foams. I am at an impass, do I throw more money into these axles? or do I opt out and go with something more "proven". Not say these are not a well built unit, but I think the they are just not ideal for the demands I am making. it's the front that takes all the abuse, I am sure the rock hoping is the issue, but i don't hop it any more then anyone else in the group. Heck, the rear still has the stock spiders in it. The weak point now are the CVs, there is just not enough material there. I am looking at some upgrade shafts for my RS10, the same shafts might work in the venom housings with about the same amount of modding. they are alike 10 bucks an axle

I would put a nice set of axial scx/ax axles under it,very tuff, and just about everyone makes upgrades for them..they even held up in the foff i had with paddles and velinion vxl power"thumbsup"

kinda what i am leaning towards, but i just had a revelation, not sure if it will work though. i think the ball on the drive line cv will fit the cup on the axle shaft outer. that ball is made differently and appears to much stronger. I will play with that tonight some. then it would just be a matter to making shafts (use the broken ones i have)

Ive never broke a shaft only lost cvc pin and mine hold up great no issues at all since iput heat shrink around the cvcpin and hard on mine i destroyed wheel hubs

I always ran mine on 3s and dig... I know all bout the broken cvd's! Venom had a bad run of axles. Some would last me months, others broke goin in a straight line in 4wd..

For straight rear axles, weld the broken ones an use the good ones out of the rear in the front.. get two new ones while ur at it.. lol.. I finally started trading my welded straight ones for other ppls rear cvd's... I still have a set left, I think...

I finally switched to xr universals an modded my front axle for xr chubs an knuckles.. steering an strength!

Clarfication please. I have mentioned this before, but got no response. I see a lot of talk in older threads about the XVD shafts, was there a Creeper shaft at one time and is no longer made??? Or is there another shaft that I can use? I am fine with swapping out the C-hubs and knuckles, running the stock ones now, but what is a direct bolt on? It looks like the XR mod requires a lot of modding, if that is my only option fine.
