Apparently "Ultra" wasn't enough

I didn't make it out to Glen Helen but I did some light testing at Rainbow. My list of corrections:

1) Hack off a front link mount from the skid plate to clear the steering for better left turns.

2) More preload on front shocks, lighter oil in rear.

3) Get a good rear servo. Thinking about the Hitec 7955tg.

4) Lock front diff. It couldn't climb rocks very well at all.

5) Get more 3s batts. I think I'm ready for some speed.

#4......Get ready for less steering 8)

#5......"thumbsup"

Missed this thread before, here's my selects from the race, will see you guys out there in Nov: U4RC - themirrorpool

Those are some great pics! I made the cover of the 2.2 gallery."thumbsup" Getting passed, but still that's cool.
Thanks for sharing. Did you get all the dust out of your camera yet?:lmao:

#4. I think it has to be done. Couldn't climb without momentum. I could see that being a problem. There's still time to test, there's still time to test.:lmao:

Plumbers putty is pretty soft, try silly putty before locking it tight. Pack it full so it squishes out when you tighten screws.

Its been working really good in my hammer and Im not breaking cvds

They didn't have silly putty at walmart so I guess I'll try toys r us tomorrow. You're right, I should try that before jb weld.

Side note. I decided to keep my hammers and race that too.

Breaking news: Blue Monkey came up with a bracket to move the bellcrank forward. I sent them a PM to see if I can get my hands on one. Maybe I won't be trying 4ws in a race after all.

What cvds are you running?? I haven't seen any cvd other than MIP's that hold up to a locked front diff, or are you open?

Doc I'm running some gpm cvds or they maybe reps of some. Got then off eBay for $18 bucks there designed really nice and light....right now I'm running a homemade locker until I get my vanquish one....I just took the stock exo rear diff spider gears and stuffed them in the front exo diff when screwed together it gives u a lock and I'm running pro4 mmp on 3s and bothe the cvds and lockers have held with no problem that I can complain on

. We are always looking to add tracks to make regional and national events. We can provide you rules and specs on cars you just need to find a place build a track.

I am all alone here in Baja (mex), and my wraith with 3s, xerun 3400kv, 56/13, mips, etc, etc is too much capable for the desert trails, I have no rock mountains near so no crawling for me, but as I said early on this thread, this thing of ULTRA 4 off road racing is super..

can I have those rules and specs too, so I can find a place here to "build" something similar and make some "solo" runs but with your official rules?

BTW.. Snickle, your wrexo endedup really great.. congrats and best of lucks on the races..

Sounds like you need to build a track of your own and run the heck out of it.

you can bet that amigo.. but at least need some minimal specs and rules to make it fun.

I like temecula city, I have a cousin living in Murrieta and this last July I spent 5 days with my family there, If I have known about this ultra4 races before you can bet I would have gone to one of them just to know you guys and check the races and your rigs

its really not that far from where I live, but at least 6 hours drive from my town from "sea of cortez" to temecula, one of these days ..

Thanks for the kind words, Steelfish. This rig is coming together but after driving it a little today I can say it has a little ways to go.

My current status:
I traded for some tires today that I'm going to glue onto SC wheels.
I've got some beef tubes ordered for the rear axle. Those should hold the C-hubs better (they're already loose).
I put on a stronger rear servo (Hitec 7955tg) and I think that should do the trick out back.
I was reading another thread and realized I didn't install spacers between the top plate and the exo diff case. Blue Monkey is shipping out a bracket to move the bell cranks forward, too.
I got some softer springs for my Proline shocks. I want to try out some other spring rates and lightweight oil.
Found some silly putty at Target. Thanks, Erin. "thumbsup"

Here's the link to the U4RC thread. They have the class rules listed on the first page and some other information. They also have a facebook page with some pics and info. It would be cool if you could build a track because it might attract some other peeps to drive with.

And check out our Temecula thread if you're in the area again. We have some good spots to crawl out here! And a bunch of cool people.8)

I made it to the first round of the U4RC winter series today, and survived! I didn't get a chance to practice before the first heat but by the end I had a good feel for the new ride.

I did end up using 4ws to compensate for the poor exo steering radius. I used full time 4ws with the rear set at only 20%. It was pretty easy to control this way. I also used silly putty in the front diff and this worked perfectly. Thanks, Erin!

In the first heat I used a 2 cell battery and too heavy shock oil and too stiff springs. For the last chance qualifier I used a 3s and tuned my shocks a little better. This must have worked because I was first in the LCQ and moved on to the main. I could not get a good rhythm in the main but at least I finished without breaking anything.

I have an onboard video from the first heat. It's too bouncy to enjoy but I have it so I'll share:
