Ascender in Honduras

So every 4 months I post one of the few upgrades to my ascender, I haven't even got to installing the sway bar , but I did manage to finally try out the duratrax scaler tires, I really like these, I went with the Chinese knock offs and duratrax tires with stock foams (imho the only thing these tires need are good foams and you have a contender), anyways a couple of pics.8)

That's just a Velcro strap.

LOL ...i did the same thing...took me like 5 minutes to figure out it wasn't a piece of molded plastic...looked like a plastic box to me for some reason :lmao:
Cheers!

So i have been driving my ascender for a while, but lately i have been running into an issue, seems the low gear doesn't want to remain engaged, i have tried the servo travel settings and expos, i can put it in gear manually, i guess my mini servo may have crapped out.

Another outing and the vaterra was great, my trx4 on the other hand driven by my son had a motor death, the traxxas titan had been through a lot of mud and water, so r.i.p. ... time for a holmes motor:mrgreen:

Another outing yesterday, i am having trouble with the 2 speed not staying in gear, i have tried all the adjustments possible and it feels like eratic behavior from hte servo, sometimes it will fully engage and other times it won't, shift linkage is smooth, i am even debating on going back to the single speed tranny...

Thanks man.
I have a question, who has stripped any internals from the tranny? what gear is the most common? i have a grinding noise on mine, i both speeds and it's not the spur gear and pinion mesh, the tranny 2 speed rod fully engaged in second or first same noise, i still haven't taken it apart but i am hoping for some input before the teardown, oh btw this is a 2 speed from a hammer not sure if the internals are metal as the ascender's.

So i guess no that many on here have opted for the 2 speed? in any case i took apart the twin hammers tranny (i already put back on the single speed on the chevy) and i found out that the only gear that stripped is the only plastic gear on the tranny...part#vtr232008, just in case anyone else has a failure."thumbsup"

Twammers tranny had some plastic gears, my first Ascender Blazer is still on original factory Vaterra metal gears and smoothly crawling along. Glad you got it figured out. :)

my TH 2 speed is still going. but the traxxas micro servo killed itself (endpoints set too far chewed up its own teeth) so its a manual shifter lol but the control is so smooth on the hobbywing 1080 i can leave it in high gear and still nice and easy on the rocks.

I've been considering going back to single speed as well. we shall see...

So i have no good news, scored a dnf in the comp, went class 2 , tires had grip, but the lack of practice and the boldness of going into a comp with an untried setup took it's toll, the wheels are some cheap plastic i had laying around and had no air holes, so although the tire had a nice grip they were bouncing all over, that added to a th spur gear and a 20t pinion plus a 3s killed the driveshafts...

Untested truck setup, OG driveshafts (not the update heavy duty) , geared too high for good crawling can do that. Vent tires, not wheels, is better imo. Tires look good on there and looks like you had fun! :)
