Hey guys I run a pro4 3300 and mmp with 54/14 gearing and 3s so I have some pretty ridiculous wheel speed but we do lots of foffing type climbing/bashing. My stock servo finally gave up the ghost and I am in the market for a new servo. Looking for something in the $100 range. Trying to see what your guys thoughts and experiences are for a servo able to take a beating but still be good at crawling with lots of torque (300+ oz) Also I run cut Mickey Thompson Baja Claws 5.75 inch which are super sticky. The stock AS3 had trouble steering them on my hardwood floor:screwy: Thanks!

Do you use a external BEC with that?

I'm running the 1230SG with an external BEC. So far so good. It's good piece of mind to run the BEC if you do manage to bind the steering. I also occasionally run a 3S pack so it's a must there.

Plenty of info on both the HiTec and Savox if you search. I'm sure its hard to beat the HiTec 7950, but I found the Savox for under $70 and figured it was worth a shot. It's certainly an improvement over stock. It does "buzz" while sitting still but that's not really an annoyance for me.

I have looked through the forums and have been seeing all the talk on servos and running BECs, but as you see there are so many opinions out there on it it can be confusing for a new guy like me to understand it all. What is the possible effect of not running a BEC with that servo? since the stock servo is a 6V servo as well?

YOU MUST ALWAYS USE A BEC.....learn it, love it,use it for greater mankind....lol

oh and basically if you dont use a BEC, youll burn out just about every servo you use because the proper amount of power required for the servo to function properly is key. i have gone through about 20 servos in 6 mos. with my bashing on my rigs...i personally favor the Savox because they take such a beating its not even funny! but hitec 7950 is definitely one of the best you can buy, but as with any servo id stock up on rebuild kits which can be had for around 20.00...just in case you dont want to end your bashing fun early.

hope this helps!

That's what it seems like, but still don't know what happens if you don't use one... servo blows up, ESC blows up, reciever blows up, or does the world just come to an end and your servo doesn't work to it's full potential?

Any of these waterproof? It seems the Hitec blue waterproof ones are a bit underpowered for bashing and light crawling.

True if you don't use HV receivers. However if you do, just run a 2s life battery direct to the Rx and you're good to go. The only r/c I have that I use a bec on is my race truck simply because I can't afford the extra weight of another battery.

I run a hitec an cc bec in all the rigs I own.. never let down never left a session early! Unless I ran out of time or batteries.

The bec allows full power to ur servo while full power is goin to ur esc/motor.. without it Everything suffers! Go full throttle an ur servo is left with less voltage. Get in a bind or just in a spot where steering is needed an ur motor/esc is left without the power..

just purchased a Savox 1230sg since my Futaba S9156 got a stripped gear. Had the S9156 for about 7 months, just to many rock pile jumps w/ the ROC 2300kv. I will see how the 1230sg holds up.

Ok guys I took the dive and ordered a Hitec 7950 from rpp! Got a Robotronics horn and front bumper supports for my wraith for $155!! Thanks for all the help and suggestions!
